Metz Gathering 2011

Here are a couple shots from the 2011 Metz Gathering at Waltham which took place last week. The Waltham Museum trailered in a couple cars, and a few more Metz owners brought their's. An interesting talk on the Metz Aerodrome concluded the event. Metz was interested in selling airplanes in 1913, and advertized them in various publications. The air show was held on the grounds of the Gore Mansion where Metz lived and kept the company offices. The show was quite an even with numerous 1913 planes with the top barnstorming pilots of the day with a top prize for a successful 50-mile trip of $5,000. Unfortunately, Metz plane sales never got off the ground. Metz knew more about car design than flying machines. No, their planes were not friction drive.
