My wife and I have been together for 18 years this September. For the entire time, she has been telling me about her Grandfather's Limo. Being a car-guy, I was anxious to see it but I was convinced that there was no such car

Today, she called my bluff. On a visit to she her Grandmother, she invited me "out back" to see this mystery vehicle. and wow:eek:

A bit of background:

The car has been in the family since new. The '32 was pushed out of the garage and covered with a tarp to make room for her Grandma's 1970's-something Crown Victoria. It has been parked outside so long that the tarps have been beaten to shreads and the car is starting to feel the pain. Granted we are in Southern California, the car still has no business under a blue tarp.

It's a standard 1932 Chrysler Six four door sedan...not a limo. Nice car with non-original material interior wise. If it was cleaned up a bit and better photos were posted, we could probably estimate it's value. I wish I had a way to come down to see it in person.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure about the limo thing but that was the way it was descibed to be. I appreciate the clairification.

As far as seat material goes, I know it was restored over 25 years ago but it is in need of some definate freshening up.

Yeah, I am making arrangements to get it to my garage so I can get it cleaned up a bit.

I have received quite a few offers but personally I think offers without viewing the car in person are a bit hasty

Forget the rest & trade your wife for it. If she didn't let you get it in 18 years IT would be a better deal

I can't tell you how many times I have considered trading her in:D

I'm 35 so to be with a girl for 18 years at my age is big deal.

I really would like to thank everyone for the information, support, and sharing resources. I am very appreciative. My intent is not to use the members selfishly; just to seek out financial gain but more to serve my family members as best as possible.

After much ado, I finaly got the car out of the side yard today. We got it on a trailer, got it home, and gave it a bath.

That car is in great shape. I hate the vinyl interior, but the car still looks nice everywhere else. I would fix the vinyl roof cover and drive it as is.

Thanks Keiser! The car cleaned up really nice. I put some cleaner wax on a corner and it shined up really nice.

My Father-in law and I aired up the tires and all four hold air with no leaks. The car was on blocks so there are no flat spots.

I ended up putting a battery in it and the lights came on:D Heck, the horn even works.

On a not so good note: we cannot find the key and we are missing the gas cap.

Other than that, the car is complete.

I wanted to thank everyone for the help (most notably Keiser). The help I have received makes me a car guy. Despite our differences, cars always bring us together.

I think the buyer got an outstanding deal. I buy cars half the age of this car that are less complete than this one.

I hope and trust he will treat it well. He is a member here but I won't mention his name out of respect for his privacy.

Well. I'm the new owner of this car and I love it. We actually drove it today and with the exception of having no brakes other than the emergency brake and it needs a set of points real bad, it runs better than expected. If anyone knows of a source for tuneup parts, I'd appreciate the help. I'm surprised how really solid the car is knowing how long it sat out in the weather. I assure you that it has found a home where it is finally safe and sound in a nice warm garage.

Not sure about your '32 Chrysler but I can get tune up parts for my '33 Plymouth with a similar Delco-Remy electrical system from my local better auto supply. Take the parts in to match and then record what you got so you can ask by part number next time. If it helps any, here are the parts I get for my '33: http://www.ply33.com/Parts/group8#8-27-158

There are, of course, antique car specialists who also carry parts. For Mopar the usual suspects are Roberts Motors, Mitchell Motors, Andy Bernbaum. I would not be too surprised if the vendors I list for Plymouth might help you on your Chrysler too: http://www.ply33.com/Parts/vendor

Be VERY careful using just your handbrake to stop that big car! Those thin bands on that brake are not meant to be used as a regular brake and will wear out FAST. Ask me how I know. Why no brakes, otherwise?

We drove the car very short distances on my property. The master cylinder is frozen solid and I'm assuming that I will find the wheel cylinders in the same condition. The brakes are the next project. I drove it long enought to see how the trans and the rest of the drive train acted. So far it seems very solid.

For replacement brake parts you can go to Apple Hydraulics. They have nearly all of the items you will need. Others will probably direct you to other places as well.

Thanks. We actually borrowed the tool from a local brake shop when we did the brakes on our other Plymouth and Dodges. They refused to sell us the tool even though they hadn't used it for years. It was great that they were willing to loan it to us. On our 34 dodge pickup we actually use a wheel cylinder from a fifties vintage car but we had to drill an additional hole in the backing plate to use them. I really don't want to do that to the Chrysler.

Oh you kids and your toys! I have a few distributors if you want to try to get the 1933 Desoto running. I hope Rob told you the cars in the shop are going to have another mate, the 1930 Dodge panel truck.

I hadn't heard that yet but it doesn't supprise me. He has been talking about it ever since we left your place. I think the Desoto is next on his list of things to do. Thanks Bob.
