type35o
I have been looking at old photos lately and have been trying to determine when, or under what criteria, the fenders of a pre 16 car were painted body color. It seems to me that cars with no front doors had body color fenders and those with front doors had black fenders. Anybody have any insight to this styling cue? Guest EMF-Owner
This comes down to what each manufacturer did. There were thousands of manufacturers. There is no definitive answer to this question. Some had fenders painted body color, Some had them black, some had leather fenders, some had wood. depends on the manufacturer and the year and the body style and the....Hope this helps. type35o
John,I agree that this was up to the manufacturer however the majority of pictures of the no front door cars seem to have body color fenders. Sometime between 1910 - 11 most manufacturers had adopted the front door and black fenders. Why? Does this make the car appear longer? I know there is no right answer, I just thought this was an interesting topic.Karl
