Buick Blackhawk Sold

Sad day for Buick enthusiasts and a sad day for GM. But if GM is going down, then glad someone got it. Still, regardless of the price for the T bird or any other car, I'd be hard pressed to pay that type of money for a car. And then be expected not to drive it. In the spirit of this hobby, the sales price makes my Electra seem even better to me. Cause once I did it out of the ice & snow I can drive it any day I want. At least till there's no more oil.

More important to me right now is who did the driving down the 1320'?

Details would be nice. I remember seeing some photos, but my memory is pretty poor.

BTW, Suzanne and I went to a local bar tonight...it was the 3rd annual B-J Bash...car folks getting together to watch the auction and raise money for a local charity - over $10k was raised for the Children's Rehabilitation Centre of Manitoba - http://www.barrettbash.ca/.

Thanks Roberta...at the auction, one of the local writer's eyes bugged out a bit when I told him I knew folks who had driven this car - I wasn't sure about everyone, but I knew Harold had to have driven it.

Let's hope it is in the hands of an enthusiast who may bring it out occasionally rather than just squirrel it away.

Dear Thriller:

I seem to remember Joe Taubitz driving it at the drag strip.

I rode in it when the GM guy nailed it. Two things stand out: First, what engineers refer to as "Platform stiffness" (No bending or twisting like you might expect in a concept car or even a well-built hot rod) which was as good as or better than any production convertible.

Second, the very distinct feeling that an elephant had just sat in your lap. I paced off later the two street signs that I used as markers and got from 3 to 80MPH in 220 feet!

Regards, Dave Corbin

I drove the Buick "Bug" down the drag strip, and drove the Blackhawk around the parking lot giving rides at the regional in PA.

I think Roberta and Harold are the lucky ones to take it down the strip

I was told that the purchaser was a man name Gary Kuch eho has a museum in Lincoln Neb

At the time, I was the director of the then, National Pike Chapter (now Pittsburgh Tri-Shields) and host of the Great Lakes Regional. I was fortunate to get the first ride in the Blackhawk that day, and to this day I am still grateful for the pleasure of being honored with the ride. I always loved the Blackhawk, and still think if it became a production car it would sell like crazy, call me prejudiced. That ride sealed the deal for me that the Blackhawk will always be my #1 wanted car that I will never be able to have. Nothing will ever come close to that experience.

We are still proud of the regional we hosted despite bad weather. And we'll also be forever grateful for Buick sending us the 4 cars for display at the regional. Ah the memories.

"Harold got the best deal he got to drive the truck and the Blackhawk and parade it all over the country for all of us to see! And we need to thank him for that!"

I will bet this is not going to happen for a while if ever again. Something tells me we may have seen our last concept cars, old Buicks or special Buicks at regionals and / or Nationals. At least till GM starts making some money.

Yes indeed. I met Harold when they came to Pittsburgh. He had room for 5 and brought 4 GM cars, and one of his own for our show, his GN. Harold was a true representative for the GM cars. He not only hauled them around, ut he knew about them, and was more than willing to share that knowledge. A fine representative for the vehicles he carried around. You couldn't ask for a nicer guy to escort these vehicles from one destination to another.

Just to clear the air. I was the driver of the first run down the 1320 @ VA.Motorsports Park. The car performed well it ran 12:56 @ 108 mph, I still have the time slip. Steve Pastiner Made the third and final pass. I also went 6 rounds with the Buick rental car that day. There are photos of me doing the 1st burnout and then spanking a 67 or 68 GS Skylark. This was the debut of the "Buick Blackhawk". I was also part of the team at AAT that built the car.
