Jim Rohn
Have had this for ages, not exactly sure of its use ...cast in "SPEED GEMS" on the starter nose area, part number inside as shown
Jim Rohn
so this adapter will allow the later flathead to be installed in/to the earlier (32-48) trans/frame etc?
Dave Henderson
Looks like one in a 1963 Almquist catalog that converts to "54-62 thru 312" OHV engines, cost was $26.95.
Jim Rohn
so it is NOT to put a later flathead in, but a Y block in a early V8 chassis?any chance you can scan that page and email me?rohns@cox.net thanks!
Dave Henderson
Jim, I think so, it would convert to OHV, not'49-'53 flathead. Funny, the catalog showed a bunch of adapters, but none were listed to connect a '49-up flathead to a '48 down one. Ergo, they maybe would just bolt up, I dunno. V8 guys, help us out on this. My scanner is kaput, I do need to do something about it and will remember your request. I'll ad this, the drawing of the adapter like yours in Almquist's catalog had everything right as far as I could determine. Dave

Dave Henderson
Ok, here's my best shot, but not very good. It's the top one on the right.
Dave Henderson
Clarification; I mean the top one of the column of 3 of them on the right, not the stand-alone top one. Sorry if it's confusing!
Guest Bob Call
JimI believe this is to adapt the 54 and later Ford and Mercury OHV Y block 239, 252, 272, 292 and 312 engines to the earlier 32-48 Ford car, 32-53 Ford truck and 39-53 Mercury transmission. Guest robert campbell
thanks Bob!Hello,New to the site. Attached are a couple pics of a Ford five bolt 289/260 bell housing. There are virtually no markings, but I have a 1963 stock Ford 5 bolt bell housing and the block plate and it is a perfect match. It appears to be a bell housing to mount a 289/260 in a 48 to 56 Ford F-1 truck? Anyone have any idea?Rob
keiser31
You may want to start a new post about those as this question will be lost here.
