Guest Bob Call
Since this canister is among a bunch of Ford parts and the mounting bracket looks right I think it is a 49-53 Ford/Mercury. Pre 49 the Ford products did not have factory filters.

Dave Henderson
Looks like Ford original equipment, I remember it being attached on the driver's side of the engine. A 1960 Pep Boys catalog listing for the refill element starts with '39 Ford, but an old Warshawsky catalog's listing begins with '46 Ford. I had a '41 with a filter on its replacement 59AB pre-'49 engine. Of course, this isn't conclusive. Early V8 guys can put this straight.
Jim Rohn
just list it as a Flathead Ford V8 oil filter in your ebay listingthe people that need it will figure out what years it will work for, but I think it is for 24 stud engines, so that would make is 37/8 and later ... through
Guest Bob Call
48 and earlier Ford products did not have factory oil filters. Any you have seen are aftermarket. 49 was the first year factory oil filter which is what is in the above picture. The three holes in the bracket on the bottom mounted on the head bolts. 49 - 53 flat heads have head bolts, 48 and earlier have head studs.
