pennyfarmer
I found this while metal detecting and I was wondering if this is for a car or a gas can as some have suggested. There was a dime adhered to the inside that I believe is a 1920 D dime. I appreciate any help you can give me. You would be surprised at the number of antique car items metal detectorists dig up. CarlLaFong
From the small size of it, I would suspect a gas appliance such as a stove, lantern or blow torch
West Peterson
That looks like a hole in the center of "GAS," which would probably mean you unscrewed the cap 1/4 turn, put your finger over the hole while you pumped pressure, then tightened to hold the pressure. Gas lantern.
