Hi there. I recently picked up a 26 Chrysler. The roof had been cut off the body. I was able to get the body and roof section. I believe its either a Series 58 or 80. Is there anyway to find out from a frame number? Also where would said frame number be? Also Im in need a driver door. Any place on the web I can get body parts from? Thanks for your help in advance.

In those days Chrysler's model numbers referred to top speed. The 58 was one of the smaller models, a 4 cylinder car that was replaced by Plymouth in 1928.

The 80 was the Imperial, a big luxury car in the Cadillac class. The 1926 80E had a 6 cylinder engine of 288 cu in. In 1928 it was advertised as the most powerful car in America, 112 HP.

I am restoring my 26 with mustang II front suspension. I would like to use original motor but need a few parts (cylinder head, distributor, starter, trans. to make this possible.

I have the front and rear fenders, also the motor. no trans.

I need a passenger side door, on front.

I also need a rear suspension. something that would work with this frame/chassis.

I know very little about these old cars but I once heard a wise man say "Your either green and growing or ripe and rotten"

Hey Bill. Thanks for the reply, I truly appreciate it. I love working on this car and any information would help, If I could ask you to take a few pictures of your 58. The motor especially. If you could take pics of the rear suspension and transmission. also the seats and the way the cab is set up.

Thanks again

I am just about finished restoring a 1928 model 52 and have acquired several extra doors.(9 in all 7 front and 2 rear) I believe they should fit '26 through '28 4 dr sedan. They are free but the shipping would kill you.

Are the two rears a driver side and passenger side? Is one of the fronts a passenger side? Would you be willing to part out the door handles/assembly on the others? also where do you live and would you accept pay pal/ebay purchases?

I am in need of 1 passenger side front door, and 1 passenger side rear door.

Also, could you send me pictures? My car is in a molasses bath right now but am willing to share my progress through pics.

Thanks Wayne.

p.s. this site is awesome, I have been on here for two days and have had so much help, I truly appreciate all of the time and efforts put into your responses.

Hey. Thanks for the quick reply.

I have shipped 4 tires from Toronto on the Greyhound courier/bus. It cost me 100 and change to ship them to southern Alberta. Its shipping by weight. If the doors weigh under 100lb. I would presume the shipping would cost under $100.00. also, a perk of shipping greyhound is the shipper doesn't have to pay. The receiver, being me. would pay on pickup. No risk involved. That is of course if you would ship greyhound.

My email is markwever@hotmail.com

Ah yes on second review there are two triple A's. one on the top left and one on the bottom left of the chrysler badge. It looks as though there is a letter behind the Chrysler Badge but cant make it out. I would presume it would be an A seeing as all the triple letters/numbers above and below represent the middle letters/numbers.

So cool. didn't even know it was a fedco plate until I seen Fedco stamped into the bottom of it.

Thanks

So after review of my fedco plate my vin is

Does this mean my car is a 1926 "58". it has the 4 cyl.

Ok. been doing some research on the difference in doors for the 26 model "58" and 28 model "52".

It looks as though the middle hinges are below the first raised "pin strip" on the doors on the 26 "58".

And the 28 "52" middle hinges are on the raised "pin strip" on the front and slightly above on the rear.

I want to know if these doors are compatable with 26-28 Sedans because of the hinge placement differences.

p.s. Thanks Wayne, look forward to seeing some pics.

Now that I have read this intro again, I was thinking...mmmmm....I had a 1926 Chrysler '58' four door sedan that was blue with black fenders and a 1929 Franklin 135 series sport sedan when I was a kid. The Chrysler's top was off and needed the woodwork in the driver's side doors. Both cars were apparently sold to someone from Texas. I saw the Franklin in San Diego later. I wonder if your car is my old car?!?! This is the only photo that I have of that Chrysler...

That's my '31 Dodge in the garage.

The 1926 Chrysler I owned was restored by Mason Chrysler/Plymouth in Royal Oak, Michigan. It had sat outside and got covered with snow for a few years in a row. That is the reason the top was ruined. I was walking by a glass shop when I was a kid and as I peered in, I could see an old car shape. It was a blue and black Chrysler. I bought it for $200.00 and took it home. Drove it for a while with the driver's side doors removed. They needed wood replacement. I remember it had REALLY stiff steering and darn near took two men and a boy to steer it.

Hey Mikey been a while since on site and just read your post. I have a 26 chassis and found the chassis number on the left hand side (looking from rear) right at end just where casting is riveted on.

mcgoo

Can you take a picture of the location for people like me that don't know the rivet area?

Thanks

Dave

I have attached a pic of where I located mine. I cant take credit for this as young man for NZ told me where to look. Mine is what is called a 'Double drop straight frame' where the rear of rear spring hangers curl around under frame, compared to the 'rigid-x double droop frame'. Hope these pics help. I have attached pic of chassis but not sure if it will be clear to see.
