montyg
Hi, I am new here but been in love with old cars all my life and love this site. I recently had a flat on my '33 pickup and was wondering if there are specific torque settings for the lug nuts. Thanks for your help, Monty
Guest rbl2
Hand tighten securely. Don't use an impact wrench. Old steel becomes brittle. I never saw the need for a torque wrench on lug nuts.
RocketDude
There is a torque spec listed in the manuals, but as Monty stated, no one has ever used it. Just tighten securely. It isn't neccessary to go crazy tightening lug nuts, just a little over snug. Impact wrenches are fine is used correctly, but seldom are... yirgaman
I've always found that it's best to tighten the lug nuts or bolts with the same wrench that you are going to take them off with. The wrench that came with the vehicle is the best one to use. I've been stuck out in the boonies unable to get a wheel off 'cause somebody used an impact wrench to put them on. I also use a little anti-seize on the threads.Larry
