1954 Chrysler Canada Decoding

Hello,

I'm from germany and I own a canadian built 1954 Windsor Deluxe (C62), 4door sedan, 6 cyl.. How can I decode my VIN and body tag ?

VIN: 99718325

Body: 2037

Paint: 4706

Trim: FAT

The car has a trunk badge with "Johnston Motors, Vancouver B.C." .

Chrysler Heritage don't support canadian built chryslers and I don't know any other sources.

marco, i looked at all the books i have. trim code is mahogany broadcloth. i have nothing on the body or paint codes. your serial # is correct for the car as they started at 99,716,001 and ended at 99,718,450. sorry i cannot help more, but you can always buy the build sheet[$45] and get all that info. i own 2 1954 chryslers, a 4 dr sedan and a convertible, both windsors. great cars. dennis

Serial numbers ran from 99716001 to 99718450, for a total of 2,450 built. Yours is the 2,325th built. Going by monthly profuction figures, it was built in June, 1954.

The "Body" means it is the 2,037th Windsor DeLuxe sedan built in Windsor for 1954. The other 288 vehicles were Newport 2-door hardtops. Chrysler of Canada built only the 4-door sedan and 2-door hardtop models in 1953-54 for the DeSoto Powermaster, DeSoto Firedome, Chrysler Windsor DeLuxe and Chrysler New Yorker DeLuxe. All other models were imported.

Paint code 4706 is for San Gabriel Green, a 1954 American Plymouth colour. Chrysler of Canada offered 12 colours in 1954, four of which were American. The paint manufacturer codes for San Gabriel Green were -

CIL - 2331-2057

Ditzler - 41474

DuPont (US) - Duco 1780; Dulux 93-57688-H

DuPont Canada - DU-39

Sherwin-Williams - Kem enamel 47224; Opex lacquer - 34104

All Chrysler Corporation cars had been using enamel paints since 1939 (Plymouth, except LosAngeles, had switched in 1935-36), although they advised the use of lacquer for touch up and panel repaint jobs.

As it is a Canadian-built Chrysler, you will not be able to acquire a copy of the build record. Chrysler of Canada destroyed them years ago and the American parent never had a copy of the Canadian records.
