Clunk
Ok, this is gonna sound a bit silly. I used to be a transmission tech a long time ago, and I've rebuilt quite a few automatic transmissions. But now, I'm staring at the 3 speed tranny from my Oakland, and I cannot remember for the life of me, how to take one of these things apart!!!!My guess is that I should take a brass drift and pound out the output shaft first...or should I attack the input shaft....no wait, should I go after the transfer shaft???Please, anyone, tell me the correct way to disassemble a late 20's transmission. Thanks!Clunk
Guest
Your shop manual should have the info but basicly..remove top...remove front bearing retainer and pull input shaft out...remove rear bearing retainer. This allows you to remove the mainshaft. Then you drive out the countershaft and pull out the cotter pin and drive out the idler shaft.
Clunk
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now, to find the front bearing retainer...I didn't see it, but that certainly does not mean that it wasn't there =)
Clunk
Ok, no bearing retainers...bearing stops yes, retainers no.Pulled the input shaft/gear out. The "retainer" was actually the bellhousing/clutch TO bearing housing.Pulled the output shaft out.Drove the countershaft out.Drove idler shaft out, no cotter pin.Dang, these Oaklands ARE a bit different!
