FS - 1956 Special 4 door sedan Model 41

With the addition of the '41, life would be easier if I sold a car, so here goes (again).

1956 Buick Special 41

To be perfectly honest, I haven't seen this car in a couple years, although I'm going to be moving it some time in the next month or so. When we took it to storage, the brakes locked up. I'd replaced the fuel pump on the car...after that, it would start, but would rev high and die after 30 seconds or so (I suspect a carburetion problem, but now that it's been sitting, it'll definitely need that now). I have a NORS windshield, some literature, and a Maintenance Manual to go with it. I'd like to get $1500 Cdn / $1350 USD, but I understand that's probably a bit high for this car.

Personally, I think it would be a straightforward restoration - not a high value car, but if someone wants to do the work, perhaps with their son or grandson, it could be a valuable experience.

If it doesn't sell, I'll hang onto it and probably try to deal with it myself in the future.

I know this hasn't been posted long, but with over 30 views and no posts, it makes me wonder...too much $$? Location? Nobody wants a mid-50s 4 door? I have trouble with the last one as it's in the subject of the thread.

I dislike seeing this sort of post personally, but I'm just wondering. With the '41 joining the family, space is at a premium and life would be a lot easier if I could let this one go. If nobody wants it, perhaps my boys will eventually want to work on it.

Hey Derek, While I may be barred from the fraternity for even suggesting this, you might want to consider parting the car out.

Every Buick can't be saved, and being a 4 dr, it will have few buyers. I met a guy last night who is wanting to buy an older Buick ( he is a certified Buick nut, here in Wpg), and I mentioned your 56 4 dr , and his reaction is typical, as in no thanks to a 4 dr sedan.

You can get more as parts, and think of it as saving other Buicks for the road again.

Just a thought to consider.

While I think of it... is the transmission from the 56 interchangeable with the transmission on my 58 Century?? Can anyone tell me?

The transmissions are different between 56 & 58.

Derek, I for one like 4 doors and know that I am not alone. They can be very cool cars. IMO your asking price is not that far off. If you could spend some time and not much money on getting it running and stopping you shouldn't have any trouble getting at least $1,200-1,400 for it. As it sits, maybe $1,000 would move it. The car looks too nice to be considering parting it out and considering the fact that it is a Special it probably doesn't have that many desireable parts anyhow.Parting a car is hard work. you'd much rather spend you time, blood, sweat and tears on your Mclaughlin.
