Removal of zinc additive in motor oil?

I'm sure there must have been an active discussion here in the recent past, concerning the removal of the zinc in motor oils, and the possible harmful effect on engines without roller bearings on their valve lifters... but I can't find anything on "SEARCH".

Could someone please steer me to this discussion? The subject came up at our local AACA meeting last night, and I'm a bit concerned. Seems like the only safe motor oil for our older cars, may be "diesel" oil. I need to know more!

Just to clarify, the "zinc" was NOT removed from the newer oils, it was merely reduced slightly. There is much hysteria about this, but very little of it has a basis in fact.

I encourage you to read my recent (11-17-2009) posting on this subject in the BCA General forum.
