coil resistor '61 Invicta

Hi,

Does anyone know the new parts number for the OEM Delco-Remy resistor that sits on the ignition coil?

The stamp on the resistor that we found is: DR 1912757 9MR

Any help with finding a cross-over reference (not on Delco's own website, Napa couldn't help, either) or a suitable replacement would be appreciated.

Is there an issue with your existing "resistor"? My gut suspicion tells me that those particular "resistors" went for many years in the pre-HEI days (i.e., point ignition era).

Are you sure you have a "resistor" on the side of the coil or is it a "capacitor" (installed on vehicles factory equipped with a radio, for radio noise suppression)? What is inside of the distributor housing and hooks to the point set is "condenser", for reference.

If your Buick "wires" like a '68 full-size Buick, there is a "resistance wire" in the ignition circuit, but it's "an integral part of the wiring harness" rather than an add-on sort of item. On other 1961 GM vehicles (I checked on Chevy BelAir and Olds 88), they use an inline "coil resistor" which is a ceramic block item (which could also be called a "ballast resistor", with electrical terminals on each end) rather than an inline resistance wire. That could explain why no listings were found for what you described. I researched this at rockauto.com and in my '68 Buick Chassis Service Manual.

The "DR 1912757" should decode as "DR"=DelcoRemy with "1912757" being the part number for the item and the "9MR" being some sort of production date code. You might get a GM parts department operative to check the "1912757" for part number history and then possibly get them to see what the item you desire is nomenclatured as in (for example) an earlier model (i.e., pre-1974) Corvette (the Corvette book works as it goes back to the first one, or at least used to, in the electronic parts database lookup and it does not have all of the variations of parts that other Chevy parts books have--by observation and experience).

There is a radio condenser that attaches to the coil according to my wiring diagram. In the chassis service manual, I see coil # 1115100. I'm afraid that is all I could find.
