Guest Albert
special tool for what?? compressing the spring?? i have a 54 packard same type of front end.. pick up a piece of 5/8 threaded rod,, should fit through the upper shock mount, , then find about 1/2 plate with about a 3/4 hold that will go across the bottom of the control arm. install the lower control arm (4 bolts), then the spring, make sure the spring end fits in the bottom pocket proper, then put the threaded rod through, where the shock would go, with the plate across the bottom (do not use the original lower shock mount lower plate) and tighten a little. install the lover pivot bolt throught the lower end of the control arm/ king pin asmb.. make sure its centered.. then install the upper control arm. then tighten the threaded rod till you can install the upper pivot throught the king pin asmb.. make sure that the hex key faces the front, and a removable zirk fitting in the cap, as this is where the caster/ camber adjustmet is done after.. Rusty_OToole
Best idea is to take your parts to an auto machine shop. They can press out the old pin, press out the bushings and press the new ones in place. They can ream or hone the bushings to size. It is critical to have this done right for your front end to work correctly. Beating on it with a big hammer is not the way to treat precision parts.A regular machine shop can also do the work.
