64 Chrysler New Yorker power steering pump

Recommended Posts

hi everyone. recently purchased a 64 new yorker sedan with the 413. my question is the power steering pump seems to be attached to the block only with a bottom bolt and no top mounting bolt. with the engine running the pump seems to float back and forth with the belt jumping slightly up and down. is this correct? so far i have not been able to find the answer. unfortunately i do not have a service manual at this time for the car. would greatly appreciate and answer. thank you.

It is a "self-tightening" bracket...

If you have someone turn the steering wheel while the engine is running, you'll see the pump shift towards the fender-well every time a load is placed on it...

I had this set-up on my '64 Newport, '64 Valiant ( a Valiant needs PS ???!), and my '60 Windsor.

I'm not sure what problems others have had with them, but I have had no specific problems relating to this type of pump mounting...

Good luck
