fred
Hi, would anyone happen to know what material(cloth) was used in the 46 to 48 Chryslers. I bought a parts car and it had a blue material, even though the cloth is dry rotting at the bottoms and sides it is very blue as it had seatcovers on it for years.I will be recovering these seats and want to use a similar cloth...........Thanx Fred
Guest imported_BaronvonR
According to my 1947 DeSoto Data Book the material was a Broadcloth for both the Deluxe and Custom models. I would assume that the same would be used for the Chrysler line. The colors offered were green, blue and tan.BvR
Guest De Soto Frank
Fred,My '48 New Yorker 4-dr was originally ( and still is, mostly) a very dark blue; the interior is entirely oriignal, and under the tattered 1948 aftermarket seat-covers, I found the original dark blue wool upholstery intact. It was a solid material ( no pattern or textured-weave), possibly "broadlcoth"... it's like a heavier grade of the wool flannel used to make men's suits of the period.(Also, the dash and window garnish mouldings are painted dark blue to match the exterior of the car.)The door panels and headlining were a tan or "taupe" material.Hampton Coach / Le Baron Bonney has very nice interior fabrics of this period, though they are primarily GM and Ford supppliers primarily. The true wool interior fabrics are very expensive ( upwards from $50 sq yd), and are susceptible to moths, UV damage and water staining.SO... make sure your car is water-tight around the wind-shield, 1/4 windows, backlight, etc before you spend big bucks on the authentic wool. When the original interior is in good shape, they are VERY nice... <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
