Guest llaramie
After 8 years of proud ownership, I sold my Reatta Red coupe with saddle-tan interior.I bought it with 17k miles back then for 13,000 dollars, I traded two months ago for a 1996 white-Diamond Cadillac Deville with 50k miles I also gave up $3000 out the door. The trade was done at same Buick Dealer where i purchased the Reatta -- Loren Buick of Glenview Il. Loren now has my red coupe in their showroom -- asking price $12,988.00 It still is really a beautiful car -- it has 72800 miles now, but i just wanted ride something different. The Cadillac has a Saddle interior, the color very reminiscent of the Buick Reatta's interior; the ride is softer but the Northstar moves pretty quick. Gas Mileage is about the same 15.5 mpg for the same city driving i used to do. I am very happy with my trade. If your interested my Reatta can be found here:http://www.internetautoguide.com/usedcar.../113/index.html
Guest Ranger
llaramie,I can only wish you the best of luck on your Cad. I bought the same year, same colorin an SLS. The Northstar is an engineer's dream. If the sensor that tells the tranmissionhow fast the engine is turning fails, you have to open the tranny to get at the sensor,it's mounted outside the transmission on normal cars, if the sensor goes out, you have500 miles to have the $1,400 dollar repair made, you can continue to run it but you'll need a new tranny. If your starter goes out, the top of the motor has to come off to get at it, the crankcase is prone to leaks. I couldn't run away from mine fast enough, it sure looked good in the garage, but not up on the rack or on the tow truck. P.S. my mechanic has house payments to make but suggested I dump it as soon as possible.Good luck
Guest llaramie
I seem to remember similar warnings when I bought my Reatta; I had the 41 cam-sensor error--got that fixed; I had the sunroof motor replaced; I had the rusty-sunroof panel replaced. This is all worth doing when you have a great car. The Reatta was still wonderful to own. I hope i have as much fun keeping this Caddy going. reattadudes
you'll really enjoy your Cadillac. in my experience, the Northstar engine is absolutely indestructible.I owned a livery (car service) business for eight years. instead of the normal (and troublesome) Town Cars, we used white diamond Cadillac deVilles exclusively. we bought ten at a time, and replaced them every two years, when they had about 350,000 miles on the odometer.I'd love to tell you about problems, but we never had a single one of any kind. not one transmission, A/C compressor, starter, or water pump. we always followed a schedule 6 Government maintenance program (3,000 mile oil changes, 25,000 mile transmission fluid changes), but 350,000 miles in two years is still a lot of driving. our average fuel economy was about 22.3 miles per gallon.my present deVille (2003) is following in the same foorsteps as it's predessors. it just reached 100,000 miles, and the only thing I've been back to the dealer for is oil changes. just drove it today, and the average (not instant) fuel economy is sitting right at 27.2 miles per gallon.Mike

Guest llaramie
the pic is not really of my 96 Deville, but it is close -- I captured the image a few weeks back when a similar Caddy was for sale on the internet.
