Dipstick

The handle broke off my oil dipstick. The local salvage yard has tons of GM 3800 engines, but the dipsticks are all longer than mine (same handle on top). Jim Finn sent me one from a Reatta, and it's the right length. Why would that be? Differently shaped oil pan? As I remember, the last 3.8 litre engine I had (1980 Century) was the same capacity. Baffles me. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The other variable is the tube that the dipstick slips into. When you put the dipstick in place, the stop is the top of the tube. Different lengths of tubes/different lengths of dipsticks = a wide varity of combinations.

I also broke the plastic handle on my '91 Reatta, but appears to be a simple matter of

just replacing the handle part, by removing small O ring. Unless yours is different.

Can you just replace the handle part?
