West Peterson
The "Packard of its day" was... Packard. What little information there is of Republic reveals that it may have been as good as the Packard four-cylinder (in regards to power), but by 1912, Packard already had a six. Republic was only built in Hamilton for roughly one year (1911-1912), then moved to Tarrytown, N.Y., powered by a T-head four-cylinder with horsepower rated at 35/40. I believe there are trucks out there with the Republic moniker, but I don't know if there is any relationship.
Dave@Moon
I live just down the road in Fairfield, OH. The local antique car club has a short biography of the Republic on it's web site. I visit the fairgrounds across the street from the old factory location frequently for library book sales. I believe the building still standing there is the original factory. West Peterson
Cool. The web link gives a lot more information than Georgano's encyclopedia or Krause's Standard Catalog. Interesting, though, the discrepency of how long it was built in Hamilton, with no mention of the factory moving to Tarrytown.
