1927 Chrysler 70

Recently there was a 1927 model 70 for sale with a downdraft carb on the engine. I thought the 1929/1930 model 70 & 77 were the first cars to have this type of carb. The owner said it was all original. Is this correct or not?

If this helps I once owned a 1929 Model 70 and it had a down draft carb. I can not swear to it but I think they all had down drafts.

Just out of curiosity, would you be able to attach a picture of this car? I sold my 29 back in 1974 or maybe 75. I`ve been kicking myself since. I have been all over the internet looking for my old car but have not had any luck.

I think Chrysler first used a downdraft carb in '29, but I think it would've probably been possible to swap a '29 downdraft manifold onto a '27 engine... perhaps this is what is being construed as "original"... ? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Frank, I have a large parts manual but couldn't find a photo of the '27 engine. It was a 218.6 just as the '30 was. I thought I was right--but I've been wrong before!
