Build Records & Serial Number cross indexed by engine number?

Does anyone know of any index that would cross reference the engine number to the serial number. The WPC Museum & Archive says no such index exists. But I have to wonder? The original serial number plate on my 36 Dodge D2 two door Touring sedan was lost many years ago. I would love to obtain the original factory Build Records. Thanks, Robert

Most,if not all, CPDD vehicles had their serial number (VIN) stamped right into the frame on the left or right side on the outside cheek of the frame. Scrape off the crud just aft of the rear spring shackle on the front spring(s). The number was there in 1935 because mine's there. It's stamped deep enough that you could use a light grit sanding disk on a sander and you will not disturb the number. It's near the bottom of the frame face just up from the bottom about an inch. Mine is on the left side but I now understand it could be on the right side, same place. It will be 7 digits and it's this number that the Archives needs. My KCL's is 807XXX and it was built at Dodge Main in Detroit on Oct.23rd 1935. The Archives had the built ticket for it. Let us know how you do. Good luck.

Bob- Thank you. This is fabulous news. I've attached a photo of the spot I think you are referring to. I believe you're saying it is on the outside of the frame, near where the rear part of the spring joins the frame? ....correct? It is either here, or the corresponding spot on the other side? Will you confirm. I can't wait to start cleaning the area, but want to make sure I'm working on the correct spot. Thanks again, Robert

I just explored the right and left regions of the frame,as discussed, with a bright light and digital camera, and don't see any numbers. A friend in the Dodge Bros. Club emailed last night he thought possibly this location for a serial number applied only to Canadian Mopars.

I did find numbers on the left side steering gear arm [see pictures]. Do you think this might have anything to do with a serial number?

As I said upstairs there I do not have Canadian Chrysler product. It was made in Detroit and then shipped to Canada. It spent it's life in Toronto where I bought it in 1992. I would be surprised if Dodge stopped the line and stamped my KCL frame with it's serial number and ONLY my vehicle. My build ticket is printed with 'FRAME NUMBER- 807XXX' in the upper right corner. The actual number is hand written, I believe in pencil, the 'FRAME NUMBER" is part of the ticket face. I have been under the impression that all CPDD vehicles in the '30s had their serial number in some location on the outside cheek of either frame side. Robert - The number on the steering gear arm is the part number for the arm. It would not have anything to do with the serial number.
