I've jumped out of the FIRE and into the FLAME

Well, I finally found a Special order Flame Orange 72 Centurion Convertible - so I am jumping out of the Fire Red one in favor of the Flame Orange one. It's pretty exciting owning such a special car ! ! See attachement

Shouldn't have any trouble selling the red one as she was gorgeeous too.

COOL.....oh, I guess that would be an oxymoron being that we are talking fire and flame. I guess the more fitting expression would be....that's hot!

Keith, beautiful car. If I had the cash, I'd be beating it down to Mars to try to talk you out of the red one. Hell, it is only about 3 and 1/2 hours or so. I already mentioned it to the lady of the house and there was absolutely no reaction. I guess that we all know what that means. So, keep it and I'll talk to you next year about it. Yeah, right.

Ok, the STORY.

Once upon a time, there was a little old lady from Mansfield, Ohio - well actually she was a 40 year old buying the car as a 40th birthday gift to herself. She ordered the car from Joyce Buick Inc. of Mansfield and it was delivered to her January 3, 1972. She lovingly called it "Ladybug" during the time she had it. In 1989 it was sold and moved to Dayton,OH where the second owner had it, did some restoration to it, and enjoyed it as much as the original owner did - as a tribute to the original owner, he had the name "LadyBug" with a little LadyBug hand painted on the trunklid - it was a very nice job done by a well known professional, but something I removed, let's see, uhm, immediately. The car showed up on ebay, and I bid on it there -although it didn't sell on ebay. I contacted the owner the day after it ended and made arrangements to go to Dayton, OH to look at it a few days later on the 17th of May, I stopped in Columbus on the way to pick up good friend and 72 Buick Guru, Bob Alberini to ride out with me to look at it. Well, it was love at first sight. Having never seen one in person in Flame Orange, I was not dissapointed at all in what my mind had pictured one to look like. We negotiated a fair price for both, and closed the deal on the spot. Now I had to get 2 Buicks home, the Rendezvous and the Centurion. Bob drove the Centurion to Columbus where I left it until Saturday. VERY early Saturday morning my Son and I boarded a Greyhound Bus to Columbus so we could bring the Centurion the rest of the way home.

The color "Flame Orange" code 65, was a 1972 "A" body color usually or most often seen on GS's and Suncoupes - Interior and top are both white. Mileage is 53K

I have spent a good deal of time already working on it and have it detailed out pretty nicely, the engine compartment will be this winters project. I would rate the car as a solid # 2, and by spring of next year, it should be well into the very high # 2 ranking.

I had wanted a 72 Centurion Convertile for a good while, the Fire Red one filled that need, but deep inside, I WANTED a Flame Orange one. This is a KEEPER without any question or thought about it.

A major change I made was I renamed it "Spartacus" - I just couldn't drive a big Buick and call it LadyBug.

Keith - congratulations, that's a beautiful Centurion (your red one is nice too, I hope it finds a good home)! Love that orange color, I have never seen one like that. You mention above you are adding the fender light monitors. I have this option on my 74 LeSabre but 5 of the 6 fibre optic cables are broken or missing (I was underneath the car with a mechanic when it was up on a lift). I'd like to get replacement parts for these so they work again. Did you already have the parts from an old parts car or do you know where replacement parts for this can be found? Many thanks.
