1956 Super 2-door in Australia

I fell in love with Buick's and my favorite era is mid to late 50's, which I then narrowed down to 56/57 when it was time to buy. I looked around the internet for many cars for sale in USA and I was close to buying when I came across the '56 in Australia, which is rare to find them for sale here. I was excited when I became the owner, I get a piece of motoring history!

The car was brought into town via a truck transportation, the truck was too big to fit in my street, so dad drove it from a few streets away because I was at work. He says it was an interesting experience driving with no brakes! he just used the park brake.

Unfortunately I have to keep it in the front yard, as mum and dad's car take preference. I can understand dad's '69 corvette, but mum's new Honda taking preference I'm not happy with frown.gif

Man, now that's what I'd call some nice yard art. :grin : wink.gif I really like the 56's. Keep us posted on what you're doing with her. I have a 56 Century parts car with a few things still left on it. Let me know if you need anything.

Great deal... I love the 56 Super. It is an understated car with the big Buick body and lightly done on the chrome. Good luck with it. What's up with the brakes? Let us know if we can help.

wow, thanks for those photos, beautiful car. that looks like it's the same car as mine. do you know if the 2-door was the same length as the 4-door?

Unfortunately the brakes still don't work(but when you drive a Buick why would you want to stop? smile.gif ) , but I have a plan worked out as to what I will do. I will get some new lines made up first then go from there.

As far as leaving it as is goes, I can only really do what my budget allows (which isn't much) which is what is holding me back at the moment. My preference is cars that are restored to pretty much original state, I am not a fan of modifications. I would love to have a beautiful interior though, that's what I love seeing at car shows - a car with a nice interior.

As far as parts go, I need a new windscreen, windscreen wipers, and the piece above the grill.

According to the 'Standard Catalog of Buick' all the models that year had a 122-inch wheelbase & they built 29,540 of the Super 2 dr HT. You should checkout Robert Budd's '56 Buick site...it's a great source of info & Robert knows his 'Fiftysixes' @ www.1956Buick.com

The Roadmaster and Super are the same size, be it two door or 4 door, but be careful on the windscreens ( what I know as the windshield presume?). Not just any window fits. There were two door and 4 door hardtops plus 4 door sedans and Convertibles. If I recall correctly the 2 door Super and the 4 door Roadmaster Sedan front window are interchangeable. But not a 2 door Roadmaster and a 2 door Super. Or something odd like that. For certain a Super is bigger than a Special and century and not much in the way of the body is interchangeable between these models. The Special and century is narrower, and so you want to watch out for that top grill bar and make sure it is from a Roadmaster or Super.

I agree about checking Bud's Website. There is a lot of good stuff there on 56 models.

AMC made some great cars, but except for the oddity / uniqueness factor, I can't say I'm a Pacer fan <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> More of a Javelin / AMX kind of guy, but there are a number of others I wouldn't turn down.

Awesome...it is great to get behind the wheel, isn't it. Yes, most old cars will get looks of admiration...sometimes puzzled looks too if they don't know what it is.

Unfortunately I have just sold the car, it doesn;t really suit me at the moment to be restoring it, so I handed it on to a guy who can do something with it. I have sold it for $500 less than I bought it, but at least it has gone to an enthusiast. The first guy who came to look at it was expecting a perfect car - they want it both ways, the classic look but modern facilities.

Noah, too bad things didn't work out for you to keep and restore the Super at this time. I can tell you have a true love for Buick and I have a feeling you will have another down the road someday.We enjoy your participation on the forum and hope you will keep it up and stay in touch.

Thanks Lamar, it's great to hear the encouragement. The buyer was a nice guy and I said to him that I would be interested in the car's progress, so he will hopefully keep me updated. I will still have an enthusiasm for Buick, I will keep reading the books and hopefully down the track I will have my '57 Roadmaster. It has been an interesting experience having the Super, I did get my 1 ride which I will treasure the memory. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hang in there guy. Keep your interest in old classics and hopefully Buicks. I only recently found myself in the position to actually have a car to "play" with. My other cars were necessary not something to be considered a hobby. I wish I would have kept a couple of them over the past years because when you trade them in they essentially steal them from you. A couple of my most memorable cars would have been my 1970 Riviera and my 1980 Park Avenue. Maybe someday I will be able to add another to my 1983 Riviera. My Dad had a 1958 Roadmaster 75 two door hardtop....that was a hell of a car. After he died we ended up trading it in 1964 for a 62 Electra 225 convertible, what a car.

Anyway, hang in there, stay tuned to the forum and jump in there anytime you see fit. Get associated with the Buick guys "down under".
