Converting clincher to wired on rims...

I have some steel Sankey beaded edge (clincher) rims and I want to convert them to take the wired on tyres I have.... looks like I can grind 7mm off both inner edges of the rims (leaving 8mm) and then build up inside where the bead would have sat the right shape in some two pack resin filer..

Anyone do this or know of any problems I might face?

In answer to one that is bound to come up.. the tyres do fit and can be got on and off as I have done that test!

I can't see why it can't work but thought I would ask incase I was missing the point of something.

regards

Gavin

Although I have not done it, I believe the practice here in the states is to fill the clincher bead with the proper size rope cut to exact circumference. What we call a straight side tire here, (is that the same as your wired on?) can then be mounted.

I'll only seed the discussion with this. Others with practice can please comment.
