abelincoln
I'm attempting to get a 1948 V-12 started using a 12 volt battery. I'm thinking the starter will take the overvoltage. I've disconnected All wires to the dash, and am jumpering the center tap of the ignition resistor (terminal that was connected to the ignition switch) through a resistor. Question is how to size the resistor. Does anyone know how many ohms the ignition resistor is? If I add a similar size resistor in series, I should be able to operate the ignition from the temporary 12 Volt battery. Thanks, Abe
Rolf
Sorry Abe, I think you are on the road to disaster, V-12 coils do not lend them selves to even smelling 12 Volts, and being fragile anyway, are almost sure to cash in. The recommended way to use 12 volts is on the starting system, with the 6 volt in place and properly hooked up, it is alright to hook 12Volt jumpers to the connected 6 volt cables, pos to pos neg to neg, this will make the starter turn faster without frying the coil
