I am redoing a 1934 CU. It is Black and many have argued I should keep it that way but we live in CA where it is hot and I am not a black car fan anyway. Does anyone out there have access to an Index of originally available colors for the 34 CU? I would prefer to stick with some original color. I have seen many sand colored cars so I suspect this must have been original. Any others? Thanks

Dear Choochchooch,Seeing as you are gettin such a great response from the Airflow crowd,I being a Ford and Zephyr guy will lend you a hand.I would contact one of those literature guys that advertises in Hemmings. You wanna get your hands on an original factory brochure, most of them have color swatches to give you SOME ideas.diz <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The Airflows used a series of interesting colors including some metallics. The color names for the Chrysler CU models were in addition to black: Fisherman Blue, Sultana Sand, Salon Brown Poly, Silver Wing Gray, Dorset Light Gray, and Moonglo Deep Poly. The suggestion that you look for original color chips at literature booths at swap meets is a good one. These are still available. There have been several attempts to identify acceptable modern color offsets to these original colors. Our Airflow Club Chief Judge keeps a book of correct color chips and may be able to provide assistance.

While black was the most common color when these cars were new, more varied colors show up at our meets than black. Choice of color is a very personal thing but I expect when you see the color chips that you should be able to find a correct color that will please you.

For more on contacts and pictures of our cars, log onto the Club Home Page at www.airflowclub.com or contact me via Email at airflow3@yahoo.com . Also we have a particularly active membership in Southern California and would be delighted to have you attend one of our outings. You will find a listing of the current and upcoming activities and contact numbers on our Home Page.
