joe kastellic
Has anyone had there power antenna reparied for the 55-56 cars ? the motor works ok, but I can't raise or lower the mast because the last section of the mast is really bent. Has any one used a non -Packard antenna and have accomplished the same thing? thanks Joe
Guest Randy Berger
Antenna Masters in Indiana reproduced the masts, plastic mounts and dome nuts. I bought a pair but have not been able to contact them for several years. Very careful straightening may help the situation. Back in 64 I came out of work to find one of mine broken - wish I had seen the jerk - I would have broken his mast! I rebuilt mine with the new masts. I should have bought several at $60.00 a piece. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />YFAM, Randy Berger

Guest Randy Berger
Mr. Helgason, good to see you on this forum. Although I have seen antennas advertised on ebay as being for Packards, particularly 55-56, they are not the same as originals and will not work without a LOT of adapting. The ad is just a come-on IMHO.YFAM, Randy Berger
Guest imported_Packards1
Sandy Chirco at Tucson Packard rebuilds the antennas. It is a labor intensive process as he has to make the masts himself and then send them out for chroming. Then rebuilding the entire units.
WCraigH
This is what my friend Paul in Vegas did with his 1956 Exec with dual rear antennas: Paul's Exec dual rear antenna I believe that he adapted some modern Ford power antenna to the Packard. If you're interested, email me and I'll put you in touch with him. It might be more work/$$$ than just sending it off to a professional rebuilder, but ?. Thought I prefer to keep my cars original, even when retracted, the mast on the factory antenna sticks up about a foot, which leaves them prone to damage. </div></div>As I remember, they retract fully, but do not extend as tall as the original. I also believe that Paul made custom internal mounts to the floor, but these were pretty simple.
L.Fallon
The plastic core (this drives up and down the antenna from the motor) on my antenna is broken does anyone know if these can be found new?
