this first car was my first 60 Buick. It is a Lesabre 4 door sedan. The car is all black with a red interior and is radio delete. The car has a good body but some rear panel rust. This car is now about 50% restored. The photo is about 2 years old. I drug this car out of a junkyard here in Georgia. The original power plant still runs stong with no smoke but a tranny rebuild will be needed. After sending the vin of to Greg he informed me this car very special. The car is the 2nd earliest 60 buick known of to exist at this time. I think it is the earliest known Atlanta built car right now. The vin sequence #'s started at 1001 and going by that it makes this car # 537 built (I may be off a little doing this by memory). That did not sound very low to me but I thought about it and it was close to 300 thousand Buicks built in 1960 so that is very low. The dash is black with the red interior because the red dash was not being made yet. There is an absence of chrome on the pedals as it was not made yet. The shift indicator is of the earliest type and even the speedometer surround is gray and not white.

I found this car on Ebay. It was advritized as a front bumper and after convincing the seller that people do restore 4 doors it was on a truck from Texas to Atlanta. It is an Invicta 4 door Hardtop. The car has the desired 3 tone paint and factory air. Power steering and brakes. The engine runs but the brakes are toast. It needs floors and some TLC. The car looks Titian red in the pictures (maroon) but it is in fact Tampico red and Artic White. The interior is what makes this a very rare car. It has the optional all vinyl interior that is all red. It was only available in the Invicta 2 door and 4 door hardtops and was the only way to get an all red (not maroon) interior in a non convertible Invicta. That makes Tampico red a very unusual color for an enclosed Invicta but more common for a Lesabre. The common Invicta combo would be Titian red with maroon interior.

This is a very rare but rough car. This is a Lesabre 2 door hard top with a manual tranny. The car is white with red interior, radio delete, and not one option ordered. Does anyone know where another 2 door ht stick is? I have been told it may be the only one left. 1-2% percent of 60 Buicks had manual transmissions and the only other I know of is in a titian red wagon in California and a 4 door sedan that was on Ebay. Why order the top body style then nothing else? This car needs a frame front clip floors and everything. If it wasn't so rare I would part it. The car has been dissassymbled but I will find a sutable frame restore it and the drive train and then reconstuct the bottom of the car. It has fair rockers but the floors are gone and the body mounts are almost non existant. There is also rust around the rear window and the passenger door is junk.

This is a Lesabre 4 door hardtop. The car is Casino Cream with a green interior. This car survives with 40,000 miles. The car belonged to a 90 year old man but after he dinged the side and busted out the tail light the family took the keys and sold the car. The car needs paint and carpet. This is the car when I first drove it home pre clean up. The car has perfect chrome, glass, interior (except carpet). The water pump went out on the drive home and sitting under some trees for a few years gave the car some rust streaks but there are no holes. The original trunk linning is perfect and the original spare sits in the trunk. The engine is unmolested and runs like a new car. The brakes have started leaking and wheel cylinders will be needed but the car is very solid.

The Turquise car is a Lesabre 4 door hardtop. I drove this car daily last year until winter. The car is all original and the silver interior is pretty bad. The body is rust free and the 364 runs strong but I blew the original mufflers guts out. It is radio delete and has almost no options.

The convertible is an Invicta. The car was originaly black with a red interior. The interior and floors are trashed but the rest of the body is sound. The original 401 is long gone. It needs total restoration but it can and will be brought back.

I bought this car from a guy down the road from me. He bought the car originaly and in 83 parked it in his driveway never to move again. I aw the car and tried to buy it when I moved in but it was not for sale. I stopped in once every week or two for three years befor he agreed to sell it. I guess constant pestering pays off. The car has typical rust in the lower front fender and behind the rear tires. The car has 88,000 original miles and runs good. It needs a head liner, carpet and drivers door panel. The seats are still very soft and pliable. The white paint is the original and the interior is gray and black. The car has power steering and brakes but radio delete.

This is the last car I can load pictures of. I traded 2 rough 61 Falcoln wagons for this Verde Green and White Invicta 4 door sedan. The front floors have holes but the car is OK. It runs but needs a total restoration. The hood is junk but the rest of the body is nice.

I also own an Invicta 9 passenger wagon with air that in waiting shipping with a nice Electra 4 door 6 window Sedan that is loaded with options. And if you read my other post you will see That with the Hearses/ Ambulances that gives me 14 1960 Buicks to play with.

60Buick, thanks for sharing your fascinating '60 Buick "journey" with us. I really enjoyed all of the photos and your descriptions of the history and options of many of these cars. Going forward, please keep us posted on your progress with each one -- and, of course, alert us to any further acquisitions!

Very nice reading and a nice collection of 60s. Hopefully you can also post photos and information about the Electra, and the Invicta wagon as well. Those are two I would really like to see.

There was a 60' Electra 225 Riviera 4dr hdtp for sale here locally a while back for $1200 in good running shape. Now I wish I had of at least looked at it.

The total of 14 includes the 2 I am buying from you. Go to the "1960 Flxible Buick" post. I described the cars pretty good but you may want to add to it. I even mencioned the air ready option on the Flxette. That is the first time I have seen that option.

  • 3 weeks later...

I had a 60 Lesabre 4 door sedan that was cascade green and ran very good, especially on the highway. The tranny went out and I could not find one (no ebay then) so I sould it cheap. I loved driving that car. I know own a good running black 60 Impala 4 door sedan but it seems small compared to the Buick.. I am nuts about the 4 door hardtops too... grin.gif
