Fun at Philly!

We're having a great time at Philly this year.

this is the first time I've had a chance to get on line. There were a lot of large donations given to the Library last night at the President's Dinner. I would say something over

$5,000 was donated last night from Regions from all over the country. The AACA Museum also received something like $4,000 in donations to further their mission.

Tonight is the big night where all of the award winners will take their turn under the spotlight to receive their awards. It's been a great time for everyone including myself. Last night Terry, Sue Bond, Terry's wife, and myself closed down the Hospitality Suite at 1:00am while discussing ways to reach the youth in our hobby. Philly is a special place to put faces with names every year and compare notes and ideas for the future.

Luch time, guys.....gotta go! Wayne

Hi Everyone,

We are new onboard with this message system. We (Richard & Elaine), have been enjoying the seminars, and will enjoy the Awards Banquet tonight.

We have a 66 Corvette Sting Ray - being restored as we speak. Hopefully it will be in our own garage in a few months.

Let us hear from you if you also own a 66 Corvette.

Back to class.

Won't have time tp post pictures shoprat. Now on the Steamship "Inspiration" headed to Mexico. Sorry I got the figures a little wrong guys. There was much more money given to the two organizations in question. I'll let someone else inform you of such. Not to be blowing my whistle but I did receive the Ann S Eady Award this year at Philly and now consider myself the "Chief" in adding "spirit" to the AACA. So, straighten up and smile...especially you Steve Moskowitz, lighten up, life is short. Please, everyone tell of your experinces at Philly. Spread the word, make it bigger tahan it is. I'm geting ready to leave the port of tampa. Drinks are on me! Wayne

Everyone seemed to have a good time. Robert Aftel, the young President of the Historic Fredericksburg Region told me that one of the things that both impressed and surprised him was what a great time his young children had. That's truly a feather in the cap of Doug Drake and his helpers. Some of the older kids were helping Doug run the show too, that's really great. The money donated to the Library and the Museum and the results of the auction for the Museum were astounding. David Berg is the best darned auctioneer I've ever seen. Next year maybe I'll have time to help out with the Buick Seminar again, I hope so. And believe it our not, the food at the banquets was really terrific. That says a lot for the hotel, its staff, and our staff who work with them.

Wayne, after seeing Mike again at the annual meeting, it's clear that you need to change out the picture on your postings. He's gaining on you!

We had a great time again this year also. On Friday and Saturday we had to practically pry Scott away from the Junior area. After seeing the activities he chose to do, I think he officially knows more about the innards of cars than I do! (But then, he didn't have to learn much to overtake me....)

What also impressed me was how accessible all the directors were during the weekend. The kids had a chance to meet both the incoming and the outgoing presidents, as well as many others on the board. That goes a long way to making them feel like an important part of the group.

It was nice to see some of the regulars again and to have a chance to put some names and faces together for those I had yet to meet. We missed you this year, Sal, but the babies needed you more. I'm so glad to hear that they're thriving.

I'll post some pictures when I get a free moment. I'm still catching up from being gone.

Wayne,

Congratulations on winning the Ann Eady Award. That award has special significance to me because I knew Ann and she was a great lady who passed away much too young but did a lot to promote the Southeastern Region and AACA in general. She was the newsletter editor of the Peachtree Parade for many years and did a wonderful job of reporting and putting out a quality publication. The Southeastern Region created and presented the award after her death and I was in Phildelphia along with former national president Bob Garrison and some other region members the year the award was first presented.

The Philly meeting is a lot of fun. I have been twice. One of the trips was with my brother to pick up a National Award for his car. The Awards Banquet is special treat and any national Award Winner is there because they earned it.

Philly is fun and fantastic. It is a pleasure to have met everyone and renewed old friendships. Only wish it was possible to be in more than one place at a time! Its always a learning experience and I was especially pleased to see so many younger folks in attendance. We are fortunate to have a great facility with dedicated staff to help arrange everything. Mike Jones and the entire annual meeting crew including our headquarters staff deserve a big thanks for all their hard work and attention to detail. It was a great weekend!
