Hi there, my name is Maria. I live in Holland. I drive a Buick le Sabre sportcoupe from '67.

I own this car for about 6 years now, and have spend a lot of time, love and money in it! In Holland thers are 5 Buick le sabres from 67, so its not easy to share my enthousiasm about this car in Holland. When I bought the Buick it was dark red, not the original colour with a golden interior. I modified it a little... The car is now purple, with black leather seats with purple piping.

Also purple neon wires are in the door. Under the car is a purple neon kit, sorry to say it's not legal to drive with it in Holland, but for meetings it is a thrill! Only thing on my wish list is a new set of wheels.

At the moment my Buick is in storage for the winter and I drive in one of my other cars... I also own a Suburban from '73 and an Impala from '78, my winterdrivers. I don't ever want to drive anything else than an American car.

In Holland not many girls drive big American cars, unfortunatly, so me and my car are a nice subject for magazines to write about!!

I'm a graphic designer and have my own design studio where I do a lot of car designs. I also organise a meeting for American oldtimers in Muiden, near Amsterdam, its called the King Cruise.

I made my car part of a cartoon, so this is the cartoon version of my car...!

Nice greetings from Holland!

Maria,

Welcome to the site. I assume you are familiar with some of the other Buick owners in The Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe. If you are not familiar with the Buick Club of America and its affiliates, you might consider joining.

Your car looks wonderful, and I can only say that for those in the USA that are working on the "Modified" class of BCA judging, I think the competitors for the National Meet in Batavia, NY in July next year might be thankful your competition is so far away. I am sure others on this site would like to know more about any work on the engine, or is it stock?

Hi John,

Thank you so much, hahaha, my competition.... well I've been thinking about moving to the States... ! My engine, it's original, it's a small block. And in the six years that I own this car it has never let me down! Afcourse there have been parts replaced, but it's fantastic. Sounds horrible maybe but I'm still a girl, try to work on my Buick as much as I can, the outside of the car, the beautiful design is what made me fall in love with the car when I saw it for the first time.

When I've made enough savings I want to make the engine shine... but first I want to get some new wheels.

We do have a Buick Club in the Netherlands, I'm also a part of that! I know a guy in Germany who ownes A buick exactly like mine so that's very nice!

Two years ago I went for a vacation to California and I went to the house where the first owner of my Buick had lived... in San Jose, it was nice to stand on the drive way where my Buick was when it came fresh out of the showroom!

Maria, great work on your Buick. You did a nice job of accenting the long sweeping lines of the car. I REALLY liked the fact you made a cartoon of your car. Do you publish the cartoon daily? It the cartoon a film animation? Tell us more about that. It is nice to see a girl get just as excited about her car as us guys do about ours. Keep up the good work!!! wink.gif

She is the driver of the car... runs on love, this character is soon on the market in the Netherlands! My company is called Cloud Nine but then the dutch translation, so this character, based on me and the car is called Cloud Nine.

This character owns nothing accept a Buick and a fury animal called Beezje. She wants to make the world a better place and starts with it by driving a Buick, jihaa!

Yeah, I'll try to keep up the good work on my Buick!! Unfortunatly the Netherlands is small, small roads, small parkingspaces... people here drive in ridicoulous small cars, that's sad. For a girl in the Netherlands it's very unusual to drive a big car like mine, I just don't know what that is... a few weeks ago I had an interview with a dutch magazine and they asked me where the love for big old American cars came from, they thought it had something to do with my dad maybe... very wrong I said, my father always drove a new, this is sad LADA, don't know if you know that car, it's from Russia, I told them that it probably was because my Barbie drove in an American car, she had a pink corvette (they still don't make decent cars for that girl) and a big Pick Up kind a car.

anyway, for me it's a thrill to spend time on this forum, so glad I've found it! Although there is a distance of at least 12 hours flying, it doesn't matter.

I would really like to appologize for the fact that I often make a mistake with spelling.

Nice greetings from a sunny, but very cold Holland!!

Hi Maria,

Lada also imported cars in Canada, they were quite popular in Quebec in the early eighties as they were cheap and small (they were also extremely unreliable!). Like in Europe, many like small and cheap cars here. My father almost bought one in this period but he didn't and continued to buy Volkswagens instead. He made me hate small cars, That's why I only have big Buicks!

Your website is very nice and original!

Welcome to the BCA!

Maria, Don't worry about your spelling or english grammer, we understand what you are saying. I love your artwork, you'll have to post more of it here. And let us know when the cartoon is released for publication. I would love to see you do a cartoon of my favorite old Buick, my 1948 Roadmaster, see the attached picture. Does your Buick cartoon character need a buddy or "wise old man", you can use my Buick as a model.

I've always wanted to travel to Holland to see the windmills and what your country is like. Does it really take 12 hours to fly there from the New York City? If you really love old Buicks, You should come to the Buick Club of America annual meet this year in Batavia, New York to see approx 500 Buicks all in one place.

For winter time, We had a nice sunny day here in Pittsburgh yesterday. I hope we have another one today. Do you get much snow in Holland? We have had snow on the ground for the last 3 weeks but sun yesterday melted most of it - YEA. Spring is just around the corner and we will be able to drive our old Buicks again!!!

Thank you! My artwork, I have some designs on www.wolk9.com, that's my site for work, you have to shift gears when you want to go to the different pages but especially for people who drive American cars I made an automatic gearbox as well! hihi!

I really want to come over to see the Buicks, but I dont know if it's possible, when exactley is it?

2 years ago I went to California, for three weeks, I wanted to see the Pomona swap meet with my own eyes, man what a joy!! It was a flight of aproximatley 13 hours.... but it was worth it! We spend the first night in LA and the next day we rented a car, a lincoln model 2003,not availble in the Netherlands and we went cruising, Las Vegas, Bakersfield, San Fransisco and back to LA, when we got back people asked us if we did see the Grand Canyon and all sort of big and famous places where every tourist would go and we had to say no, because we've spend our entire vacation driving from one car junkyard to another and visited lot's of meetings! This was the best vacation ever! 6 years ago I was in Kissimee, Florida and there was also a nice car show, never gonna forget that!

Holland, well if you ever pay a visit to Holland, make sure to let me know, I'll come and pick you up in my Buick at the airport!! (if you have a lot of suitcases I might have to bring the Suburban).

Windmills, yes and wooden shoes, hahaha, and afcourse the fact that marihauna is legal here... hahaha, well if I had a choice I would be in America right now. I live in Hilversum, that's about 15 miles from Amsterdam. Hilversum is the Media town of Holland, almost every television station is in Hilversum.

It's not a very big city and the problem here is that a lot of people who live here want toe famous, I like to cal it Beverly Hilversum. Me and my friends go out in Amsterdam a lot, we go there in my Buick afcourse, thera are two parking garages where I can park the Buick... sad isn't it?? Gives you an idea of how small we think over here! hahaha!

I don't know, everything is so different over there, afcourse the rush of a strange country has a lot do with it but I felt great! Everbody we've met was so nice! People treated me like a was a popstar, I'm very tall, I think you would say 6 feet, we have the metric system, 1.85 m, and I have very long blond hair, so let's say you couldn't miss me. hahaha!

The weather here is not spectaculair, we almost had no snow this year, the first spring flowers are popping out of the ground right now, so that looks hopeful. Begin March I'm waking up my Buick. There is an journalist from the german magazine Chrome and Flames coming over and het wants to write an article about me and the Buick. Do you know that magazine?? It's translated in 15 countries in Europe. I't almost the only magazine for us in Holland where we ca see what the rest of the world is doing with their American cars. Other than that we buy magazines like HotRod and Muscle magazine, but it's hard te get here in Holland. We have to buy it in the American bookstores, and they are very expansive.

When I have some more drawings I will post them, don't really no if everbody agrees on that. My drawings are a little, I don't know if you have a word for it, I'd like to say it's a bit girlish maybe? Don't want to bore you with my stuff.

So again very nice greeting from Holland!

Hi Maria,

The annual Buick show this year will be July 6-9 in Batavia, New York. Batavia is about 1 hour drive from Niagra Falls so if you come to the show, you could see a landmark on this trip in addition to the Buicks. I don't know if you have visited the web site for the Buick Club, if you have not the address is http://www.buickclub.org/. You can join the BCA - we have many members from other countries, it costs $35 and you get a great monthly magazine with lots of information on where to get parts for your 67 LeSabre. We also have local branches of the BCA, ours is the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter. Visit our website at http://www.buickclub.org/greaterpittsburgh/ - you'll see my 48 Buick on the home page!

Making a trip to Holland would be great and I would definately take you up on the offer of picking me up at the airport. I will extend the same invitation to you as well - if you ever want to visit the Pittsburgh area I live just 10 minutes from the airport and can pick you up in one of my old Buicks. This is part of what the Buick club is all about - it is a great bunch of friendly people who share their love of Buicks.

I am not familiar with the magazine Chrome and Flames, I'll have to see if I can find it here in the book stores. Let me know when the article featuring you and your car is published - I would like to read it.

Hello Buick-lovers,

I wanted to let you know that me and my Buick and car meeting for USA cars in the netherlands made it to national television in the Netherlands. On my website www.wolk9.com is a link to the movie. Links is posted by About on the website. There is no translation, I'm sorry but I figured you maybe just like the images of the cars that ride around in Holland... on the King Cruise site are more pictures www.kingcruise.nl and also a link to the movie. On our last meeting we have had over 500 American cars and that's a lot for the Netherlands.

Kind regards, Maria

Dear Maria:

I just happened to come over here where all the new Buicks talk, and saw your great pics and story. You might find a thread over on the prewar Buicks very interesting.

A Russian named Alexander (web name Nitro) found a 1939 Buick Roadmaster in a storage shed in Moscow and was able to buy it, but in very rough condition. He also likes cars as original, too. The car was assembled from a kit of parts (what Buick called a CKD car) in Antwerp, Belgium, not too far from the Netherlands, probably about March 1939.

I understand from some friends that visited "Retromobile", the big car show in France, that there was a parts dealer there who deals in rare old lights and parts. They remembered that the dealer was from The Netherlands, or Belgium, but couldn't remember the dealer's name. If you happen to know who this parts dealer is, I could use his name as Alexander has a parking light on his car that's very different from ours and I'm trying to help him identify it. I think it might be a Bosch or Marschall light, which we wouldn't use here in USA, but it's probably factory installed by Antwerp.

If you look at the 16th or 17th post on that thread, there's a picture album titled "Roadmaster". In it there's a picture of this very pretty little fender light, with a beautiful red lens. Any help or leads to this dealer or anyone who can identify this light will be greatly appreciated.

Also, your cartoon is, as our young people say, "WAY COOL !!!"

Regards, Dave Corbin

I,m so sorry I never saw your post.... <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Maybe you are talking about Jambroes in the Netherlands, he has so many rare parts, but he is very expansive, also not one of the nicest persons... sorry to say but he has the most difficult to find things. Maybe you can send me a photograph of the light?? Jambroes has a website: http://www.jambroes.nl/english/

Please let me know if I can help!!
