Going to Philly?

I know there is a very talented group of people on the DF, and in the club in general. So - who is going to Philly and why?

1. I am winning an award. Service or for a car?

2. I will be presenting at a seminar. Which one?

3. I will be working the trade show. Commercial or club event?

4. I will be attending for the seminars and fellowship.

5. Can't make it this year.

Thanks in advance.

Judy,

Di and I will be there!

Reason a. We always go and have a great time! We have been attending every year for about 8 or 9 years. We enjoy the seminars and other events and love seeing our AACA friends!

Reason b. Have Regions Committee meeting and Development and Support meeting to attend.

Reason c. Pickup M.E. award

Reason d. Someone has to be there to point Wayne in the right direction after the Hospitality Room closes. tongue.giftongue.gif

Not going to go. Hate having to travel that time of year, plus we have animals and that makes it even more difficult to have to travel in bad weather. In good weather we take them in the RV, no problem. But many motels want to charge $10 per pet per night, and ours are in cages. Two ferrets and a guinea pig. Sorry, not paying an extra $30 per night.

I am going again this year and will be staying overnight for the first time . My wife will join me for the first time since its not a one day deal. We are hooking up with some new friends from New Jersey that we met at the Hagerstown meet. We will be at the Al Pruiett & Sons booth. Unsure as to what vehicle they are bringing this year for display. Stop by and say hello.

1937hd45,

Since Di and I started attending in 1997 or 98 there seems to be an increase in the number and types of seminars presented.

The AACA Museum Auction that is held on Friday night began in 1998.

There has also been additions of Judging Schools offered. When we started attending there was the 0-10 credit and 11+ credit courses. Now there are those plus more specific judging courses. I don't remember them all but it seems las t year there was a Model A Ford judging class added, possibly a brass era class, and a few more.

Since the DF wasn't around in 1995, I guess the DFer lunch would be new. wink.gif

Bob, I don't know what happened in '95, but I know a lot of the seminars are interesting nowadays. PeterG was there last year and particapated in two seminars and I'll suspect he'll do the same this year. Mike Jones will probably have a list of the seminars proposed as the time gets nearer. I'd like to see you there this year, Bob.

Bruce, I've never needed help getting to my room yet. Well, I might have needed a little help to get out of those overstuffed sofas they have in the Hos. Roooms. Sure glad the hallways aren't too wide.

Oh Judy's question. This is all Earl Beauchamp's fault. He got me involved in our Region's newsletter, helped me get started to the point that I got my first M.E. After the first year in Philly, I didn't need an M.E. to go there, the poeple and happenings are enough to get me there each year. My son, Mike, likes it too. I think Mike was a big help with the youth organization last year. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Make sure you find me, as I'll be wearing my new "DF" button. Wayne

I have a cobblestone brick from the Ormond Beach Garage. I often wonder how many great cars rolled over it before it was torched. frown.gif

You guys keep adding this good stuff, we're going to have to add a day. Like, start on Thursday? Wayne

I can not go. My twin boys are only 4 weeks old. They are doing well, O 2 level is down, they are gaining weight. Less breathing and heart issues.

P.S. Some one will have to wear the KK doughnut hat for me.

Our son Scott started asking about the Philadelphia trip last October. He really enjoys the annual meeting and was crushed when we told him we'd probably skip it this year. Then I got the letter about the National Award (service, I presume, since we don't have a car of the right caliber) and everything changed. We'll be flying in on Thursday and flying back Sunday. Scott's not moping anymore! And Vern's already talking about who he wants to meet up with in the hospitality room, among other places. Me, I'm just glad we're not driving out again!

If you haven't been to an annual meeting in a while, you really need to check it out. One of the Wis Region members hadn't been to a meeting in twenty years and he couldn't believe the monumental changes. It's a great event put on by some very talented people and attended by a wonderful group of car enthusiasts. Besides, where else can you go to talk freely about cars without boring the pants off the other people? smile.gif

I don't believe I will go this year because there are just to many things on my plate. I have attended 21 of the last 25 years. I always enjoy the fellowship and the seminars. There is always something new. I enjoy going to the auction and used to assist with it and had been on the board and committees. It is a good relaxing few days.

I will be attending the annual meeting for the first time. As the new Antique Automobile editor, I will be hosting a seminar. It is my plan to give tips on writing about, and photographing collector cars for different types of publications, both commercial and non-profit (clubs). Also, information on how to submit your articles. This will be more of a questions and answers discussion forum, so please come if you're interested in submitting a story on your car.

West, Welcome to the Forum! Your Seminar may be the thing that pushes me over the edge in my desision on weather to attend or not. Photographing or sending original literature for feature articles would be very interesting to me. Is a high end color copy of an original as good as the original for reprint in AA or other magazines? How does one protect one of a kind items?

... Regarding protecting original items...

All you can do is spend more money to ship, i.e. trackable overnight, or UPS red or blue lable (1, 2, or 3 day delivery). In fact, when I worked for Car Collector and Cars & Parts, I would always return valuable photos using FedEx or UPS. Of course, that doesn't insure that the airplane delivering it makes a safe landing, but it's about all you can do short of personally delivering it.

One other alternative is to have it scanned hi-res digital (because it's going to get scanned, anyway) and send the digital file. (I prefer that any digital files be sent unaltered, i.e. no photoshop manipulating. Of course, if one is a professional at Photoshop manipulating, then I would grant permission, but I would still like to have an unaltered file along with it.)

There, now I don't even need to show up for the seminar.
