Inserting Photos into the Text of Your Post

Centurion

Recommended Posts

THE INFORMATION AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED BY FORUM UPGRADES SINCE WE INITIALLY POSTED THIS INFORMATION. PLEASE SCROLL TO THE END OF THIS TOPIC FOR MORE CURRENT INFORMATION.

Many of you have expressed an interest in inserting photos into the text of your posts. For "Me and My Car", this is a great way to provide illustrations of your car to accompany your narrative.

Here's a step-by-step approach to inserting photos. I will edit these instructions to provide greater clarity as we go along. If Roberta thinks this would be helpful, we could make this a sticky.

1) Your photos must first be posted to the Internet before they can be inserted into the text of your post. I have typically used the "Collectible Automobile Photo Post" feature of this forum for this purpose. Click on the Photo Post link on the upper left portion of your screen, and follow the step-by-step process of uploading your photos. Your photos should be saved on your computer's hard drive in the common .jpg (jpeg) file format. The forum administrator must approve your images before they actually appear on the Photo Post galleries, so it's important to be patient for the photos to be approved.

2) Once your photos have been uploaded to the Internet, compose your new post on the forum. When you are ready to insert a photo into your text, open a second browser window that displays the photo you wish to insert.

3) Open the browser window that contains your photo. Click on the photo with your right mouse key, then left click on properties. A "Properties" box will appear, including a line that is labeled "Address" with "URL" below it.

Using your left mouse key, highlight the address, which will look something like this:

http://www.electra225.com/owners/Brian-Laurance-59/SM-TOP-59buick.jpg

Once the address is highlighted, right click on the address, then left click on "Copy".

4) Re-open the "Collectible Auto Discussion Forum" window, and click the "Image" button under "Instant UBB Code". (This is one of the features that appears right below the window where you are composing your post.) A box will appear in the upper left portion of your screen.

Position your cursor inside the box, then right click. Left click on "Paste", and the address you copied for your picture should display in the box. Click okay, and you will see in the text of your post something like this:

buickphoto.jpg

Once you've completed your text, and are ready to finalize your post, click "Continue" as usual. When you preview your message, your photos should display.

This is easier than it sounds! Once you've done this a few times, you will find that you can add photos in seconds. Please make certain that your photo is not too large when it displays. This can be distracting for people reading your post, who will need to scroll from side-to-side to read your text.

Addendum: If you are using photos from the Collectible Auto Photo Post on this forum, you will find that the URL address contains unnecessary characters. Delete everything after ".jpg" in order to make your photo display properly.

Be sure to let us know if you've run into a snag, and perhaps we can help you figure out the problem.

This is an excellent point, Willie. If you use the Collectible Automobile Photo Post on this forum, the photos will be a perfect size when you insert them into your post. If your photos are elsewhere on the Internet, I'm not certain how to modify the size if they're too large. Maybe someone else who's more computer savvy than me can help respond to this.

Pictures should be around 500 pixels in width any more and we get the LLOOONNNG sroll to the right.

And here's a little help to resize there's other ways to do it but this seemed pretty handy. Check it out: Buick Picture Resizer

I just used it on the 3 pictures in my first post, see if that looks any better. RV

I set up a resizing link at: HERE Which you can use to resize your pics if you have them on a web page, otherwise, if you are using pics off the BCA Member's Gallery, then let me know and I can resize and edit the post, if you tell me where it is! Of course. This program seems to work pretty good. Posted pics should be no more the 500 pixel wide to not have the extended view in the posts. Hope that helps. RV

Here's a reminder to everyone to be certain to ask for help if they have problems posting their photos.

If your photos are not displaying as expected, please don't give up and delete your post. Go ahead and complete your post, with a plea for help. We can look at your image code or URL to figure out what's wrong, then tell you how to edit your post to fix the problem.

Brad, I notice that your photos are also up on the "Collectible Auto Photo Post" feature of this site. You could give that a try as your photo source, but be certain to drop any characters after ".jpg" in the photo address.

Please e-mail me at brianl@americanconstco.com if you have any problem, and I will try to help.

Looking forward to your story!

Let me test this for you Brad:

SM-side.jpg

What you need to do is "Right Click" on the photo and select "View Image" It will show just the picture in the browser window. Then copy the URL for this and select the Image tag on this site. Paste in your URL for your picture and it's all set! Here is an example of the code for your pictures:

image http://www.electra225.com/owners/Brad-Nelson-59/SM-side.jpg /image

image http://www.electra225.com/owners/Brad-Nelson-59/SM-rear.jpg /image

you just have to put square brackets around each side of the the image tag

( "[" and "]" ) so it would look like [image] and the same for the one on the end.

Let me know if you want some more help with this. I can see how it would be a bit confusing for folks who are not computer people!

Ok, Now I can get a photo on a floppy disk to the acceptable size, it was on a disk with six other photos and I attached the resized photo to the same disk. What do I do with photos that are on a full disk. Computer dummy here, so no big fancy words or maneuvers. grin.gif

Someone once posted on how to post photos by first "attaching" a photo and then getting the link off of the attachment and entering it as an "image" or something to that affect. Does anyone recall this or know what I'm trying to describe. I have tried several different things but can't get it to work. I'm pretty sure I didn't dream this. smirk.gif

This was listed by EDBSO (Robert Fletcher) on the Reatta forum section. Hope this is what you are looking for, Lamar!

I don't even know how to do an "Attachment" to get a photo over. Obviously I am having difficulty getting a photo to the Internet so I can get an address to insert that will identify the photo.

May I add a suggestion, hope so cause I’m going to anyway. Have any of you thought about using photo-bucket? It seems to have everything you need. A place to store your photos, edit them. Just don’t change the name the site gives you. It also gives you the click option to where you just click the paste the information on the forums.

http://photobucket.com it is free.

As for right clicking on the photo with the red x means the server doesn’t support what is called hot linking. That is the term used in web design. It has to do with the bandwidth that is used to link to the pictures.

I my self just learned this as I decided to use the web space that my ip provider uses for another forum and had the same problems.

I'm with you Norb. What happened to our capability of adding a photo directly from our computer,(up to 5)?? That's how I got all my photos into my page (1953 Buick Super 8 Convertible) on the Me and my Buick forum. If I have to go through the gyrations described at the beginning of this thread FORGET IT!!

Bill Madden

Well what do you know. It worked here. What's the deal??

I'm with you Bill, it is sooo much easier to just add photos as an attachment-scroll down when posting a reply and clic on Manage Attachments, then browse your computer for the one's you want. The only proviso is they must be suitably re-sized (I keep a folder of pics which I have re-sized in readiness) and Voila!

From Forum FAQ

Most of the info in this thread is 8 years old and is obsolete due to change in forum software. The current 'sticky' thread should be eliminated to avoid confusion.

When the new sotware was introduced there were several threads in the Forum Questions - AACA Forums but those seem to have been deleted :(

=======

To add images on the bottom of the screen

1) Click on 'Go Advanced'

2) On the top row of your reply box you will see a paper clip. Click on it or on “attach files manage attachments" down the screen-.

3) The 'Manage Attachments' window will appear.

4) Click on the 'Browse' button for that window.

5) A browse dialog will appear. Browse to the location of the file on your computer.

6) Click on the file

7) From the 'Manage Attachments' window click on 'Upload'.

8) Close the 'Manage Attachments' window.

9) Submit your reply when the message text is complete

Be sure to check on the upload screen they are attached by scrolling down

Have also read there is a limit of 2000 pixels when posted as an attachment

You can also add images to a gallery.

Check your User CP (Control Panel)

For graphics software to resize images (and much more) try IrfanView - Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide. Free to download with many features. Easy to use.
