Guest Darv Hemann
I have a'35Dodge 5window coupe, stored inside, with an engine that ran last year, but would turn over, but not start this year. Short version-we replaced most electrical parts, cleaned starter, etc., but last week it would not turn over. No water in the oil, we soaked all cylinders with penetrating oil/diesel fuel, but no luck. The clutch is not stuck to the flywheel, but the flywheel will not move (either way) with a crowbar, even with the starter out. I am now looking for a crank to fit the front of the engine. Any help would be appreciated. Darv Hemann
Bob Kinker
Remove spark plugs & soak down the cylenders with a generous helping of penetrating oil, for starters. Literally drown the cylenders, let it soak for a day or 2 before trying to turn over the engine again. You can use a socket and breaker bar on the nut (bolt head) that holds harmonic balancer. Good luck!Bob
HarryJ
Dary, good advice from Bob, it may take more than one soaking with penetrating oil and a couple weeks to free it up.I would suggest you go slow and bring it back to life analyzing one problem at a time. Guest Darv Hemann
Thanks Bob. We have soaked the cylinders with penetrating oil, and a couple of days later with diesel fuel. We will try the nut also next time.Darv
Guest Darv Hemann
Thanks, Harry. I am trying to take your approach because I want to save some labor if possible and I'm not in a hurry. We will continue to soak it and keep trying.Darv
Guest imported_Ricky Luke
DarvI have a similar problem with a '40 C25 Chrysler Royal. You need to soak the valve gear as well. I took the side plates off the engine and tried to see if the valves moved (suggested by an old mechanic). Four are seized at various stages of opening (one fully closed), and will hinder the engine turning over. You can pour diesel or ATF down the inlet manifold, but this doesn't get the exhaust obviously. You may need to remove the head and give them a soak. Good luck! Guest Darv Hemann
Thanks Ricky. I will try this also. Good luck with your '40 Chrysler.Darv
gunfixinsmith
STOP!!!!! If you really care anything about this car you will want to tear the thing down and see why it is stuck. Almost always the exhaust valves are stuck . No amount of ANY penetrant will do a valve job for you !

I have an 36 engine that the valves were rusted in place. The DPO (Dam Previous Owner) took the soak approuch. After time he forcedthe crank by dragging to down the street, witch snapped the cam shaft tothree pieces. Eric
