huffreport
Hi all,I thought this might be a good place to ask a general question about old Mercury wagons, specifically, the Colony Parks... Does anyone know whether the fiberglass trim pieces that surround the large woodgrained inserts were also woodgrained? I recently purchased one of these cars , (a '57) and it seems to me after looking at the fiberglass pieces, that mine have been repainted white many years ago. I can see that under one of the round studs that holds the trim in place, that it was originally sort of a yellowish color. But, I'm wondering if these pieces need to be woodgrained, or simply painted the appropriate color? I have seen photos of an Edsel Bermuda wagon recently (on the SoCalCarCulture website) that shows a woodgrain on the fiberglass pieces. But, is that something specific to the Edsel, or did Mercury also woodgrain these? Or, perhaps the guy with the Edsel just wanted to make his look better by adding woodgrain on his own.... Any ideas, comments, etc., are appreciated! (I've attached a very small photo, if you're curious!)Thanks in advance,Kevin
crydog2000
The trim in question was indeed woodgrained a light ash color and actually had a slight grain in the surface. I have a friend with a fully restored Colony Park - Turnpike engine, indash air, power everything including seatomatic. Great looking cars. huffreport
Hi, and thank you for your reply, as I had just about come to the conclusion that it was NOT woodgrained. I suppose what is on the car has long since worn off.... I thought I had seen some others that had a woodgrained appearance, but I was not sure. The wagon is actually a pretty solid, and should look great with a proper redo... They are apparently pretty rare, and I bought this one at the right price. I found out today that my dad found a very nice hood ornament (he's pretty sure it is the correct one) down in his basement. We'll compare it to the one on the car tomorrow... A friend has a cute Commuter wagon, and after seeing his, I was on a mission to find a CP... I just love these cars. Thanks again for your reply,Kevin
