1970 Ford Maverick

I inherited a 1970 Ford Maverick from my mother.

She bought it new in 1970 and used it to go to work/

home. It has relatively low mileage. It runs very well

and the body is in good shape. I recently read and article

in the NY Times about the coming of age of this generation

of cars.I would like to know as to the desirability of this

car with collectors and what value it has. If any one has any

information I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks, Nacho

nacho...Welcome to the AACA Forum.

I will leave your post here for, hopefully, some dialogue concerning the car coming of age. As for requesting what is the value, we have a Buy/Sell section on the main page. You could post the value question there.

Guest imported_Dwight V.

May have value if it's a 2 door, especially if V8 equipped.

If it's a 4 door, it has limited appeal.

In 1970 the Maverick was available only as a 2-door. It is not one of the most desired cars of it's vintage out there. My latest price guide (4 years old) shows a top value in pristine condition of $4200, which is the least valuable Ford that year.

Never the less 1970 is right at the cusp of serious collector interest right now. It may be a few years before interest filters down in the collector community to the economy cars of the era like the Maverick. In the early 1990's I restored my first car, a 1960 Falcon. It was laughed at at the time by some, and never the bell of the ball at any show/cruise. But it taught me a lot about the hobby and didn't cost me a fortune in the balance. Also today that car is far more desirable than it was then, and worth about 2-3X what I sold it for in '94!

So if you're interested in the hobby yourself or know someone who is, this car is an almost ideal introduction. Not only is it inexpensive but parts are widely available for it and inexpensive as well. You may not get a lot of money for it (a running "used car" condition Maverick is worth about $1000-$1500), but in the right venue (collector car swap meet, Hemmings, etc.) I'd bet that it would sell quickly.
