Identifying old ignition points

My grandfather was in the automobile repair business untill 1955. I have quite a few old ignition points from his business that I am trying to identify. Is there a book that identifies old ignition parts?

My thinking is that because there was a limited number of manufaturers between say, 1925 and 1955 and many of those manufacturers would have kept the same design for a number of years, the information might be out there. The points I have vary in design quite a bit and I have a lot of some of those designs, which, might indicate they were for more common automobiles.

If no one has cataloged the various ignition systems used in American automobiles, it might be an intertesting project to take on. It, pretty much, means popping off a distributer cap and taking an image.
