A Lady Could Use Some Help

The webpage for the AACA Library and Research Center has a section titled "Book Reviews". Every month or so, 2 or 3.. or even more reviews are posted on automobile related books. I recently prepared a review of a book that is currently posted on the web page at the personal request of Fran Shore. Typically most.. if not all of the reviews are written by Fran and she always does a great job writing the reviews. However, I thought that the DFers could help her out.

Fran is a very sweet lady from the Brandywine Region that is very active in the National AACA and is always giving 110%. Di and I have had the pleasure of working with her on various projects such as the AACA Youth Program. She is always on the go working on one project or another, not even letting something such as an elevator breaking her hand at last years Annual Meeting ......just before the General Business Meeting where she was to give a report..... deter her from her committment (she finally did go see a doctor after the meeting). I know that she has been kept very busy with the book reviews and she is grateful for any reviews that people want to contribute.

Its obvious that the DFers can read (..yes... even Wayne grin.gif). And many probably read automobile related books now and then. If you have read an interesting automobile related book recently, please consider sharing a review of the book on the L&RC web page. It may introduce readers to a new and interesting book while also helping a very busy and dedicated lady. I know that Fran would appreciate any and all book reviews that people want to contribute.

The URL for the LR&C book reviews is http://www.aaca.org/library/book_reviews.htm

Just a thought...

Good idea Bruce. I asked Santa Claus for that fancy "Garage Book" for Christmas. It will be my first contribution. I'm sorry to say my book reading has really suffered lately as a consequence of my job. I have, in the past, read a Smokey Yunick autobigraphy, and one about Zora, so maybe I can contribute those also. Gives me a good excuse to reread those books. Wayne

Fran asked me to post the following:

I cannot get onto the forum for some reason but I would like to thank Bruce Wheeler for his wonderful book review and also his

invitation to all of you to help me with these reviews. It is lots of fun and I would really enjoy having others participate. It can be a

fiction or nonfiction book, technical or anything that is vehicle related. It can be about what interests you. If it is about "Garages,"

racing, scooters, cars of all eras; clothes or music that relates to the automobile. Just read and write your thoughts about the

book. Check the Library website frequently. Kim updates the contributions/donations list frequently and the book reviews change

about every six to eight weeks. Jan Kamholtz does the website for us and keeps me looking good with her graphics and

organization of material. This site is where you can find the forms to obtain research as well. We are so fortunate to have such a

fine Library and Research Center. Wherever you live; the Library is accessible to you-by phone, e-mail or letter. You can support

the Library with contributions of materials or money or just buying a raffle ticket (or several) to win a trip valued at $5000. This will

be awarded at the Annual AACA Meeting in Philadelphia and you do not need to be present to win. We will call you that evening.

Some of you might be hesitant to write reviews after seeing the lengthy ones that Fran often writes. Don't worry, reviews can be short and sweet OR full of details. There are so many good auto-related books and articles out there, and reviews are one way to keep up with what's available.

Another thought: Maybe Kim Miller could put together a "wish list" of books she'd like to add to the collection and we can post it on the website. If you find you have a bit of change left over after Christmas, buy one of the books on the list or choose one of your own favorites. Read the book, write a review, then donate the book to the library. I'll do it if you will!

I mentioned my previous post to Kim Miller, L&RC librarian, and she wasted no time compiling a list of books she'd like to have for the library. To see the list, go to: http://www.aaca.org/library/book_wish_list.htm

The next set of reviews will appear in January. Fran likes to work a bit ahead, so she's already collecting for February. Send her your reviews whenever they're ready.

Hi Bruce! And yes Santa visited out place last night. This is to let you know Bruce that, yes, I can still read, have gone through 1/3 of my Santa "Ultimate Garages" already. Found 2 typos in the first 3 pages. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> So, I guess a book review is in my future? <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> My house is full of presents and sleepy people. And this was just after breakfast. Our big meal is at dinner time. Wait!, I smell a pumpkin pie cooking.....hot dog!! I'll be in touch Fran after my belly goes back down! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Merry Christmas everyone. Wayne
