CBoz
(Hope you all don't mind me yackin' about nothing in particular. But my wife doesn't want to hear it, and my Mustang buddies just don't get it!)Pulled out the transmission this weekend, in part to get to the back engine mount to determine if it needs to be rebuilt. Short answer -- yes. The rubber is pretty much shot on it, so it's off to the rebuilder.I knew the tranny was small, but good grief, but since it is a manual and the bellhousing part of the block, there isn't much left! And just like the seller Gerald Dick told me, it's the original unit, as can be seen by the serial number stamped on the top.I decided to take EVERYONE'S (<img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />) advice and send my generator off to be rebuilt. The field coils are losing their insulation, anway, and I don't have the tool to remove them. I suppose I'll have other stuff to do anyway. Rolf
Hey Cecil, first question, who rebuilds rubber motor mounts?? Approximate cost?? That is a new one on me, I know someone re-proed the OD motormounts from '41-'48 for a while, but have not seen them offered for a long time. The '37 Zephyr has a '37 type ford transmission doesn't it, with the early synchros, that are marginal at best?? These can be upgraded to the 39 Ford synchro, which shifts a lot better and will last a long long time, whereas the earlier unit will wear out very quickly. My advice, don't try to re-invent the wheel, unless you want to convert to a Viper V-10 and an automatic, Rolf

48LCCOUPE
There are two or three sources under sources on home page of this site. I should have two motor mounts showing up today from vintage and need to send Alan my "cores" back to be rebuilt. Of course my one mount is missing a piece so I will be charged accordingly <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />. CBoz
Hey Rolf -I'm having George Trickett rebuild mine. The price is around (gulp!) $250, but rubber has to be molded around the unit, so not an easy thing to do.I'm sure there are others, but George was very gracious with his time when I bought my car, so I'm giving him the first shot. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
