48LCCOUPE
don't know about today but as recently as I think 5 years ago such a thing was still offered in the J C Whitney catalog, kind of a novelty I would assume. along with ahoogah and cow horns. imported_Phil Knapp
These were a popular accessory in the 50's, before air conditioning became available in most cars. I had one in my 1955 Ford Country Squire for a little while, but it didn't make the car much cooler inside, only damp! All it does is blow moist air into the car, hopefully cooled by evaporation of the water soaked pad inside the unit. They work best in the southwest where the humidity is low. It's merely a mobile "swamp cooler". A nostalgic piece these days. Most of you kids out there have probably never seen one!
imported_v12lincoln
The mobile swamp coolers are just a nostalgic piece unless you open up the fill hole and fill it with ice and a little water. and I saw a guy that was making them new at the Turlock swap meet in central calif. he was getting 280 for them, your better off changing to 12 volt and adding air conditioning. CBoz
Well, living in North Carolina (and growing up in Georgia), where the humidity is so high in the summers, I doubt it would have much evaporative effect here!
