Guest
I traded appraisal services for perhaps a 1942 Chrysler Royal? Can anyone help me figure out what year this car is? Thanks in advance. Body 340-5-1225 Engine C34-2404
Jon Robinson
Mr. Johnson: You did, indeed, wind up with a 1942 six-cylinder Chrysler. It's a very, very good car, and they have beautiful dashboards. Your car will definitely have the Fliud Drive clutch, and it may have the Vacu-Matic automatic transmission behind the Fluid Drive. The Vacu-Matics are a little less reliable than the hydraulically-operated version that came out in 1946, but they can be restored and work quite nicely. The transmission gear ratios are a little strange, and when you step on the gas, you won't be going any where really quickly, but once they're moving, they're excellent highway cars. The gear ratios were also perfected right after WW II. Tell us more about your car, and there are several of us who will help you perfect it. Please keep it as original as possible to preserve a piece of irreplaceable history. Good find! JON
