6219_Rules
What is going on out there? ANY opinion would be nice...I will do some digging but it seems like there is more on this in the Rant & Rave section than posted here. Dave, where are you when we need you! You are one of the most erudite and current members on this forum!
Dave@Moon
Randall,I always envisioned this section of the forum as being oriented for/against specific legal/legislative actions. Most of the comments I've made are of more of a political nature, pointing out general trends that'll almost certainly result in actions that'll fill this section up in due (and probably very short) time. I see that aspect as more appropriate for the R&R section. As for any specific legislation, having moved recently from PA to OH, two relatively antique-friendly states, I just haven't come across too much worth posting here. Also, I abhor games being played with environmental laws that seem to me to be putting our cars squarely in the sights of a faction of our country. However, as a committed environmentalist I'm vastly more outraged than I am as an antique auto hobbiest. This is because this process is obviously (to those who work in the field) a means to "cheap out" on performing any real work to prevent a further fouling of our collective nest. Therefore the fact that threads posted in the R&R section get roughly 8 to 12 times the number of hits that these threads get leads me to believe that I'm exposing more people to what I've been able to see than I would be able to do here.I'm sure as soon as any specific threats are born or expanded, then many others will join with me in posting them here. Guest imported_jmarsicano
Dave-What do you do in Ohio, It sounds like you're in the government field somewhere. We may have something in common. Joe
Dave@Moon
Hi Joe,I was a RCRA inspector for the State of PA until my kids were born. At $11.13/hr (after 8 years and 2 upgrades/promotions), there wasn't much point to staying after they were born. I've been a housewife now for 10 years. 6219_Rules
That is interesting, Dave. I did the same thing when my son was born in 1984. My wife at the time was an up and coming young business woman, and planned to continue her lucritive career. I was in the Phd program at Dedman college, Southern Methodist University, in Archaeology at the time. With his birth, I chose to drop out to care for him since his mother was on the road a great deal of the time. It is a decision that has haunted me ever since but I still maintain it was the RIGHT decision. My needs were secondary to those of my family. When he was old enough to go into pre-school, I started working part time as a text entry programmer at her company. That is what launched me into computers. 5 years later I was Systems Programmer on an IBM MainFrame, VM/SP 5 & 6, plus an early PC peer-to-peer network. We divorced in 1991 and I left to go to work for IBM, the State of Texas, and McAfee amoung others. Since my forced retirement due to disability, I have learned that while having free time is nice, I would much prefer to be working. The more I am on this forum, the more I learn about cars, the hobby and interestingly enough, current events. To wit I have begun to open my mind to the state of the union and what is going on. I have always loathed politics, but I am getting more interested in knowing particulars to current events directly due to this forum and the exchanges held therein.
