39' Zephyr Coupe revisited

I went back to the garage where the car has been sitting for the last 42 years (with a bigger flashlight). I now have more info. The engine is not a V12 but a flathead V8. The body seems solid with some slight surface rust and a few small dents. As previously stated the hood is missing and the front drivers side fender is dented and cracked, it looks like a tree branch had fallen on it. Front & rear bumpers & grill are intact but need to be rechromed. The body trim seems complete except for the strip on the drivers side below the hood. Also I found the hubcaps. All glass is there and undamaged. Interior is there but is moth eaten. The steering wheel, speedometer & pedals are intact. There is no radio. Door handles & window cranks seem to be all there. There is no rear fender skirts and no rear trunk handle. I would also like to know since all the tires are flat is there any modern Ford rims that will fit this car that I might obtain from a junkyard so I might be able to roll the car out of the garage. I do have one unflattering photo that I managed to take before my battery in my camera died. Thanks! Jim PS - I am not looking to keep this car as my interest lies in old motorcyles and not really cars, I would rather pass it on to someone with more interest, what would be a fair price to ask a potential buyer?

Dang it, where were you a few months back when I was looking for a '39? <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

It's really hard to say what the exact value would be, but none of the things you mentioned are "showstoppers."

If I were you, I'd take a good set of pics, put it up for sale in the classified section of LZOC, accepting the highest offer that comes in over some period of time. You could do ebay as well, but there is a higher chance that someone will buy it who would "rod" it out (but it's your car to do with as you want). If you do, you may want to check to see if the car has the two-speed rear axle or any other interesting features. The more the better.

Either way, the '39 3-window is pretty rare *and* a very popular bodystyle, so I wouldn't be surprised if it broke 10K, even in that condition. Just my two-cents.

Wheels from Ford Pickup trucks (5-lug, through the 70's at least, possibly later) will fit the '39 Lincoln Zephyr. Early Ford wheels (1940 through 1948) and Mercury wheels (1940 through 1950 or 1951) will also fit. The Ford pickup wheels will probably be easiest to find, and are usually 15 inch. Lincoln wheels (at least through 1957) will also fit. Try to get some photos of the car!

I received this message from Jim today:

Phil

Here is the only picture I have, as you can see this car has been in this garage for a long time...the inspection sticker says 1962....my dad said that this seems about right as the last time this car was on the road as his friend owned this car and they used to cruse in it in the late 50's,he said even back then this car was always kept in the same garage its in today, he said his friend got married had a bunch of kids and moved away in the late 60's but never thought he would have left the car..

As soon as I can get it out of the garage and get it washed off I'll take some better photos.

Thanks for the tire info

Jim

The picture Jim sent me is 1.6 mb. I had to shrink it a LOT to get it small enough to be accepted as an attachment! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
