The lower corners of my rear window are rusted. Anyone know a place that sells patch panels for this area? Or what di you do to repair it?

Thanks.

I'm not sure but you might check with a vendor such as Year-One or vendor's who specialize in Chevy Chevelles for 1964-65-67 etc. Thay may have patch panels that would fit without much trouble. Good Luck!!

65Lark,

This is a common problem with GM bodies. Repair options will depend on severity of the rust.

First, you need to determine the extent of the damage. If fully rusted through, water will leak into the trunk causing additional damage over time. The first step in truly assessing the damage is to get a worklight, flashlight and inspection mirror. Then pull everything out of the trunk, climb in an start looking at the areas up under the rear window, then check the trunk floor, wheel well joining areas, etc. Next step will be to remove the rear seat and rear quarter panels to have a look inside the rear quarter sides forward of the rear wheel well. A good shop vacuum is handy here, as lots of junk gets down there in 37 years. Finally, remove the rear window trim and glass for inspection.

If damage is limited to the lower rear window channel corners, it's probably repairable by fabrication and welding in of new steel. If the damage is beyond that point, then there are rear window to trunk panel patchs made for the exterior sheet metal. See: http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/.

Subpanel assemblies are not reproduced, so if it is beyond repair, then you'll need a donor car (1964-65 GM A body sedan/ht).

If the rust is moderate or worse, you may have to replace the posts that hold the trim clips in place as well. Fortunately, this is fairly straight forward using a stud welder.

Good luck!
