imported_foxfireray Posted June 1, 2003 Share Posted June 1, 2003 I am restoring a vehicle from 1915 which has a copper gas tank. Modern Gas seems to cause the copper to oxidize. Can I use gas tank sealer on the copper tank? Has anyone else done this successfully with long term results? Guest stude8 Posted June 2, 2003 Share Posted June 2, 2003 It will be interesting if anyone can testify about sealers, I have a friend with a 1911 Cole raceabout and we left fuel in it over the Winter that now looks like Lime Koolaide. The fuel was brought down from Wisconsin (We are in Chicago) and was supposedly agricultural grade gas not loaded with ethanol or high oxygenation formulas we are spoon fed in the metropolitan EPA district around the city. It seems to have had the effect of reacting with the Copper tank just the same. We didn't want to be the guinea pig to try a sealant that peeled off in a month.
