palbuick
Hi Rick. Some information you might use to restore the STar Wars. The Round insert emblem is standard from a 63 door panel, the letters on the front, BUICK, are also from 1963. I have restored a couple of these Air cleaners. As for the color I found that 1965/66 Buick Flame red was almost an exact color matchJim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
Guest
Thanks for the info Jim!The emblem and letters are in good shape though. Interesting to find out they are from a 63' though! I wouldn't have guessed that. What I need to work on is the plastic (fiberglass?)One of the horns (inlets?) is broke pretty bad, the top has to small holes in it like someone tried to drill through it?, and there's a few pretty deep "scuffs" in the fine grooves on the top like something was rubbing on it for some years.Any suggestions would be appreciated! I plan to just start trying to mess with fiberglass and see what I can do. Sound like a plan? Thanks again for the info.Rick
Hollywood820
I hope that you are able to restore the one that you have. If you are not able to do so, there is a decent one on ebay currently bid price at $100.
Philippe Racicot
Jim, I have a star wars air cleaner on my car and the "UIC" letters are damaged by the metal band that retains the hood insulation. I would like to know which models of 63 Buicks had those letters and where they were located on the cars. Thanks!
palbuick
Hi PhilippeThe letters are from the hood, to use on the stars cleaner you will need a flat type speed nut, check the old letters on yours.Good luckJim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
Philippe Racicot
I have noticed that the letters were fastened with flat speed nuts on my air cleaner. From which model of 63 Buick are the letters from? Special/Skylark or LeSabre/Electra? or maybe both...Do these letters ude the same kind of fastners or they use the more common 3/8" head nuts? Thanks!
