How come no one likes to chat about the Old Rocket Engines, from 1949 to 1964? Yes the parts are costly and hard to come by, but going by the rod to stroke ratio, valve lifter diameter, all having forged cranks, 18 bolts per cly. head, and the raw strength these engines had, is it just lack of knowledge, that these engines are overlooked. People still chat about the old Buick nailhead engines, are the old 401 Buicks that much better than the Olds 394?

I think it's because only a few of us have them. You really want to get scared, go over on the oldspower.com board where they think an 80s 307 is a hot engine <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> even though, all things considered, it is comparable to the original 303 in all respects.

394 vs nailhead? We know what the early 60s Gassers were running. 'Tweren't no Buick.

Well I had a 394 in a 52 Chevy coupe. That motor flat out was rude and dam near hand anything its own behind on a moments notice! Wish I didnt sell the car. Now that I am big into the Olds 330 to 455 engines, I wish I would have had a good opourtunity to tear one down and build it myself. Maybe some day I'll cross paths with an older Olds terror and have my chance to do a 394 and find a way to stuff it in my 84 Hurst Olds.....Until then I'll keep searching!
