lincoln hood adjustment??

I am having problems with the hood adjustment on my 48 lincoln conv. coupe.

I have switched the hinges from side to side and still have the same peroblem. The hood sits about an inch high in the back above the cowl. I have the hinges on the firewall as far down as they will go and even shimmed them at the top and still nothing. can anyone help before I take the hinges off and grind the holes longer. this has been the most frustrating part of putting this car back together.

Thanks.

Jack

I would suspect that the pivot points on the hinge(s) are worn. The springs are very strong, exerting a lot of pressure and over the years wear out the pivot points. Oiling them ocautionally might have slowed down the "wear". I believe that you'll probably have to ream out the pivot points and put in larger pins. Every post-war Lincoln seems to develop this problem and I think that the weight of the hood is probably the cause? You can verify this "wear" by appling pressure to the rear of the hood to see if it wiill go down flush with the cowl. DP
