Guest
Dave Cole wrote in The Way of the Zephyr; for July 1994 that in mid-1938 Lincoln changed from the hollow propshaft they had used in 1936-7, and fitted a solid propshaft with an additional centre bearing. Lincoln thought this change sufficiently important that they recalled over 15,000 1938 cars already sold to make the change. My car is in the UK and retains the tubular propshaft. Lincoln never recalled 1936 and 1937-built cars for this change. Do the early shafts cause problems and should I change it?Mike WilliamsUK
Guest
Hi Mike, Ford made a similar change in the Ford car as well, and many of them went without problems at least until the 1960's, this I can verify by personal knowledge and observation, the solid driveshafts with the extra support bearing were likely superior, but in the Fords at least, the old styles were not really troublesome, IMHO of course, OC
