Guest
Peterg. A while back you had it that way and after some discussion decided it was not right to operate a "private club" on the AACA site where registered members could slander or ridicule non registered individuals with the non registered people being denied the opportunity to know what was being said and at least have the option of going to the general section to take issue. Of course this could merely be the way to FORCE everyone to register. It seems that fairness is not very high on YOUR list of forum objectives. Now you have probably offended a number of AACA members, which must be your objective judging by your current action. It is obviously YOUR forum to be operated as YOU see fit and to hell with fairness. Maybe THIS is an issue to be brought before the AACA Board of Directors through its Grievance Committee. Peter Gariepy
JEB,There is no restriction to registering, therefore there are no restriction to the R&R forum. Want to see the R&R forum? Great... register.I encourage you to take it up with the AACA Board of Directors if you feel that registering is to high a price to pay to be able to read the R&R forum.Peter
Guest JT
JEB,If some registered user did respond to an unregistered user in an unflattering way what's the difference, they are [color:\\"green\\"]anonymous. I think the reverse of that situation is the more common case.
ply33
As a passing comment, I monitor discussion forums on several web sites and regularly post on a couple. I have noticed that the one site where you must be registered to post has never had a thread degenerate into vindictive attacks. That can't be said for this site. Maybe it is the calibur of people posting on a site that makes the difference. But I don't think so: I think it is because you are more likely to think twice before you click on "submit" if you know your words will be attributed to you. You will be meeting (even if only electronically) with the people you are tempted to flame. And if they know it was you who flamed them it will color the interaction. When you anonymously click send you need not worry about the consequences. That makes a big difference. Since anyone can register on this discussion forum (not limited to AACA members at all), I don't see what the big deal is. It would be fine with me if registration was required to post any message. Guest SalG (Sal Grenci)
Tod, [color:"green"] Being registered makes people think twice before they start the attacks. You can not make everyone happy. There is not a requirement to join AACA or to pay for the use of the site.
Guest
JT. A person can be unregistered without being posted an Anonymous. I am. Now for an example of the point I am trying to make.XYZ could say something considered by some to be out of bounds and the thread would be either deleted or possibly moved to R & R. Then a registered poster, JT as an example [nothing personal, just an example] could go on and slander XYZ. XYS would never know it or have the opportunity to defend him or herself by going to the general section. You say that since Anonymous is unregistered no one would know who he is so what does it matter. We don't know who you are so you would be free to say anything you want about anyone and remain anonymous. Only the moderator can determine the identity of a registered member who goes only by intitals or such, and he probably isn't talking. However there are some unregistered people who post in their own names and they surely aren't anonymous! All I am saying that you should not have to be registered to READ R&R. I do not advocate unregistereds being able to post to R&R.Peterg instituted this restriction once before and backed away from it. Why the return to what he felt back then that it was not a good procedure?JEBI just tried to post this and it seems that someone has just registered as JEB.in the last hour. That closes me out. Is that an effort on someone's part to deny me the use of my initials?Registered JEB beware. I can still post and sign my JEB to itJEB

Peter Gariepy
JEB,I registered as "JEB" to prove a point. Anyone could post as "anonymous JEB". Anonymous posting (even with a name attached) is for the one-time or occational visitor, not for habitual users of this forum - as you obviously have been for a very long time.Occational visitors to this forum have no need to see the R&R forum. So hiding it from them is of no consiquence. As to your other comments - if you don't like how I run this forum feel free to leave, or if you wish, complain to the AACA Board of Directors. Keep in mind they will not entertain your complaining anonymously anymore than I do.Peter

Guest
Hello, my name is JEB, as in Jeb Bush of FloridaI had not realized that identity theft had come to the Forum. First my sign on identity JEB is taken away and then I am accused of being someone else. Then I am told that using ones initials without registering is only for ?occasional visitors.? Jeb is my first name not my initials. Sorry but I did not know that rule. I will not do it again. I just thought it was better to use a name instead of just coming on as Anonymous. I thought that by doing that anyone that wanted to post something relating to what I said could make a direct response to an identity and not just one of many anonymous posters. My mistake.Possibly this requirement is part of the new forum format. I remember in the past that there were many posts by a number of unregistered people who used their name, initials or some alphanumeric combination. One unregistered person using his first name made dozens of posts over a long period of time and nothing was ever said. But of course he never found fault with the system. All of this has caused me to rethink my position on registration. I now feel strongly that anyone should be able to READ any part of the forum at any time, but NOBODY should be allowed to post to the forum without being registered. That way the administrator can always identify who posts what and there will no accusations of someone being anyone other than who he is, as is being done here. It also might be well if the registration not only included the E-mail address but also the person?s full name and address. This would not have to be on the profile available to readers, but the administrator would have positive identification of everyone who registers and therefore anyone who posts.Institute that rule and I will register immediately using my full name like Tod Fitch or Peter Hartmann do. Until then if I have anything else to say I will just have to be another Anonymous like today.JEB

imported_Bob Hill
Well I have been readin gposts here for a long time but haven't registered until last night - also haven't posted until now.I do not see why someone would mind registering and identifying themselves unless there is a hidden agenda. Not trying to start a flame war but I will be careful what I write or how I respnd if I know that I will always be credited with what I write - be it good or bad.Plus, I would think one of the benefits of this forum is to make friends in the old car hobby. What if they have a forum get together and all the anon's come - how will anybody know who they really are? If I show up with my forum name - they may not know me but at least the next time they see a post from me they will at least know who I am.Just my 2 cents on a first post
Guest
I for one applaud the efforts to keep the anonymous user situation under control, I still think every poster should be required to post...period. Why? it would keep riff raff like me out! LOL Seriously though, none of the past problems would ever had occurred if this policy was instituted. It would also prevent the typical attacks some of the old regulars perpetuated by taking advantage of the Anonymous user function. So c'mon Pete! You have the power! Do it! The rest of us will thank you for it. Since your asking, I will always stay anonymous. Thank you very much. BTW did you know!? Certain anonymous members have been banned from this site by IP address!? I guess it's a good thing I'm on dial up hey!?

Guest
fordee9r: It's too bad that you don't want to meet some of the anonymous posters. I for one have an extra rebuilt carburetor for your Chrysler. I bought it by mistake and had it overhauled by the best. I would sell it to you at a loss, but you aren't interested in meeting me. I gotta say that your approach seems a little short sighted. It's ironic that a life member of the AACA can't look at the rant and raves section, but Petey Hartmann, who does nothing BUT rant and rave (and doesn't belong to the AACA) can go merrily along. Crazy world, ain't it?
